TITLE: Service Manager
REPORTS TO: General Manager
POSITION INFORMATION:
The Service Manager is responsible for running an efficient and profitable service
department. He will operate the department at maximum production, controlling
costs, building a loyal clientele, maintaining good employee relationships, setting
and obtaining sales and profit objectives, and maintaining sales and profit
objectives, and maintaining service records.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Forecast goals and objectives for the department and strive to meet them.
Strive for harmony and teamwork with all other departments.
Attend managers? meetings as requested.
Understand, keep abreast of, and comply with federal, state, and local regulations
that affect service operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA right-to know,
etc.
The Service Manager will be held responsible for the moral and efficiency of
shop employee?s. Must develop plans to keep employees happy and active.
Direct and schedule the activities of department employees.
Provide technical assistance to employees as needed.
Changes in attitude toward employees to help them understand the positives of
doing a good and efficient job for our customers.
Establish and maintain good working relationships with customers to encourage
repeat and referral business.
Serve as a liaison with factory representatives.
Greet all customers promptly and give fair estimates on costs and time required
for repairs and maintenance. Do not underestimate a job and expect to expense
more or write-off.
Handle all customer complaints.
Break down estimates into labor and parts before the job is started so those repair
Technicians are aware of time allowances.
Quality-check completed jobs.
Keep abreast of new equipment and tools available and recommend purchases.
Ensure that the work areas and customer waiting area are kept clean.
Account for all documents; ensure that none are missing.
Control the performance of the department using these tools: efficiency and
productivity control, comeback reports, warranty reports, and problems with
customer delivery reports.
Ensure that customer?s service files are up-to-date and are readily available for
reference.
Monitor the location and care of shop tools.
Follow up on parts department orders to ensure parts availability.
WORKING CONITIONS:
The Service Manager will work at a desk, which is enclosed in the service
department garage. He will be exposed to noise, vibration, paint, dust, exhaust
fumes, and other hazardous and nonhazardous materials. He will move about the
service area to work with the service technicians. He will crawl under cars,
trucks, farm equipment, and get in and out of cars, trucks and farm equipment to
inspect work completed. You must be confident and trained to operate heavy
equipment on and off the road.
Pay:
? Pay based on experience and work ethic.
? Time and a half paid for any hours worked over 40 hr/wk.
? Raises offered based on performance and time spent within the company
