SUMMARY: The Associate Director ofEnglish for Academic Purposes (EAP) is a student facing role which helps students navigate their academic experience by supporting them through a variety of services including 1:1 meetings and programs. provides multilingual and international students with language instruction and support, cultural orientation, and academic preparation in classes, groups, and scheduled one-on-one sessions. The Associate Director will also be responsible for overseeing English for Academic Purposes (EAP) curriculum, preparing, and teaching classes written and spoken English.
ESSENTIAL DEPARTMENTAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Development and delivery of curriculum to address academic skill-building, including a reading and writing course and a special skills course.

Developing and accessing English for Academic Purposes (EAP) curriculum, courses, and programs to enhance grammar, reading, listening, speaking, composition, and pronunciation.

Delivering group instruction and programs for international students to facilitate the understanding of the U.S. college environment.

Advising multilingual and international students for appropriate course selection for their incoming language and academic abilities.

Manage assessment of student English language reading, vocabulary, writing, speaking, and listening skills, as needed, and provide suggestions for appropriate course modifications and skill strengthening strategies.

Distinguish between language difference and disability and refer students as necessary to the appropriate assessments and resources.

Identify students who may benefit from strengthening critical language skills who may have a variety of disclosed demographic markers.

Hire, train, and supervise EAP Peer Tutors.

Attend professional conferences as scheduled by the Academic Resource Center staff and director and contribute to the development of best practices within the field through independent research and professional collaboration.

Develop and present inclusive pedagogy campus training materials and workshops.

Serve on College-wide committees, including the International Student Advisory Committee.

Develop and review ARC academic curriculum to meet needs of students.

Provide and coach students in strategies for successful academic management and performance at the post-secondary level.

Meet with students primarily through 1:1 meetings and provide support in all areas of academic management (study strategies, time management, professor communication and course management)

Have knowledge of and be able to effectively apply academic management strategies for college students
-
Provide academic support to students in individualized meetings of up to one hour.

Document student meetings and notes in Clockwork, the ARC's student information database
-
Document student meetings in Maxient when working with a student from Care Team
-
Make appropriate referrals to other support areas such as mental health, wellness, etc.

Support students with diagnosed and undiagnosed disabilities
-
Work with students to help them meet the requirements for graduation in a timely manner
-
Provide academic management techniques and weekly support to students on academic probation and those that receive academic alerts.

Complete daily administrative tasks, program assessment, and data management.

Aid in the management and intervention of critical college processes including: Academic Notice Students, Academic alerts and Care Team students.

Requirements:
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Relevant terminal degree, such as Master's degree in the Teaching of English as a Second Language, Applied Linguistics, or other relevant area.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Must demonstrate firm knowledge of advanced functions of different APEX offices and guide students to the appropriate support.

Have strong presentation skills in order to deliver workshops/programs that align with the functions of the Academic Resource Center and APEX.

Strong written communication skills to document student meetings. Ability to learn a variety of software platforms such as Clockwork, Maxient, and Microsoft Suite.

- Must be able to set priorities and balance multiple and competing priorities.

Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills, initiative, and efficiency are required.

Must be a take-charge, internally motivated individual who has strong time management and organizational skills, the ability to simultaneously perform multiple tasks, and work independently with a minimum amount of supervision.

Background or educational experience in counseling, social work, student affairs, or higher education strongly preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
