Academic Advising Director directs the academic advising department, its processes, and its advisors. Works closely with academic advisors to ensure that a proactive and high-quality approach is taken with all students advising needs. Being an Academic Advising Director assists Dean or Associate Dean in the preparation and implementation of department wide goals, procedures, and controls. Analyzes existing goals and programs and recommends improvements. Additionally, Academic Advising Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to the associate dean. The Academic Advising Director manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. Western Nebraska Community College is currently accepting applications for the position of Academic Advisor.
Responsibilities:
This 12-month, full-time Student Services position is responsible to contribute to the overall vision of the Student Success Center through the provision of academic advising and retention services. This includes working with incoming, continuing, and returning students directly, and connecting students with other important resources on campus. Division of time will be dependent upon need and overall workload of the department but will be approximately 75% advising and 25% career pathways or other student services activities. Some evening and weekend work and travel is required.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a discipline directly related to education, human services, or other student affairs related concentration required. Three years of related experience in career/academic advising or student services related work preferred. An associate's degree with significant, relevant experience will be considered with continued progress toward a bachelor’s degree encouraged.
Possession of, or the ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record that does not exclude the driver from coverage under WNCC’s vehicle insurance is required.
Salary: Commensurate with excellent benefits.
