Academic Advising Director directs the academic advising department, its processes, and its advisors. Works closely with academic advisors to ensure that a proactive and high-quality approach is taken with all students advising needs. Being an Academic Advising Director assists Dean or Associate Dean in the preparation and implementation of department wide goals, procedures, and controls. Analyzes existing goals and programs and recommends improvements. Additionally, Academic Advising Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to the associate dean. The Academic Advising Director manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. To be an Academic Advising Director typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 to 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Primary Purpose
    Under the direct supervision of a School Principal, to assist administrators, teachers, and students by delivering high quality instruction to all students on tutoring roster/schedule and meet regularly with classroom teachers of all students on roster/schedule to ensure appropriateness of service delivery and tutoring content and strategies on how best to teach in the classroom, while also heping implement and oversee the positive behavior management plan in the school.

    Essential Functions
    • Coaches teachers on how best to teach in the classroom; regularly consults with all instructional staff and progress monitors students in conjunction with them.
    • Helps implement and oversee the positive behavior management plan in the school.
    • Facilitates, leads and monitors all BLT, PLC, and TBT meetings in conjunction with Principal and Superintendent.
    • Helps all classroom teachers and students and instructional staff understand and report student data.
    • Attends board meetings quarterly to assist Principal with reporting and monitoring student quarterly short cycle data.
    • Tutor students in grades K-8 who qualify for Title services in either mathematics, reading or both.
    • Tutor students one on one and/or in small groups, based on ability levels in reading, mathematics, or both.
    • Maintain up to date and accurate documents, records, and student work samples and provide to Principal or Superintendent as requested.
    • Create, update and maintain accurate schedule of student tutoring.
    • Meet with students regularly and consistently upon assigned dates/times per tutoring schedule submitted to Principal and Superintendent.
    • Submit regular lesson plans to Principal and Superintendent as requested.
    • Deliver high quality instruction to all students on tutoring roster/schedule and meet regularly with classroom teachers of all students on roster/schedule to ensure appropriateness of service delivery and tutoring content and strategies.
    • Report progress of each student at least weekly to classroom teacher and Principal and Superintendent as requested.
    • Report progress to parents as requested.
    • Ensure consistency between classroom lessons and tutoring by communicating regularly with classroom teacher.
    • Use curriculum maps regularly as provided by classroom teacher.
    • Use Coach and other test prep materials for state mandated testing regularly .
    • Provide student progress reports/notes at every grade reporting interval, including interim report periods, and grade card report periods to the classroom teacher.
    • Assist with testing accommodations for students with IEP’s, BIP’s, or 504 Plans as needed or requested by Principal, Superintendent, and Intervention Specialists.
    Additional Duties
    Performs other related tasks as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations regarding student discipline, bullying, sexual harassment, etc. 
    • Knowledge of student behavior management techniques.
    • Knowledge of dispute resolution techniques and ability to engage in dispute resolution.
    • Ability to communicate effectively verbally an in writing.
    • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
    Qualifications Profile
    Certification/License:
    • Active Ohio Teaching License.
    • License in the appropriate grade level preferred.
    • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
    Education
    • Bachelors from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
    • Masters Degree in related area preferred.

    Experience
    • 4 years of successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels preferred.
