The Academic Advising Director manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes.     ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    This position reports to the Interim Chief Information Officer and serves as an advocate and facilitator for the use of innovative technology in teaching, learning, and scholarship, across the UW-Green Bay campuses. This position is a working management role that significantly encourages and contributes to the advancement of digital transformation within the institution by designing, managing, and supporting technology enhanced teaching spaces; closely partnering with the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (CATL) to identify and meet the technology needs of faculty; and generally supporting the exploration of appropriate scholarly technologies.

    This position includes the following responsibilities:

    • Work collaboratively with CATL, administrators, deans, directors, faculty, academic and administrative staff, and students in identifying and implementing effective uses of technology for teaching, learning, and scholarship.
    • Directs strategic information technology planning initiatives and establishes objectives for IT functional department(s), unit(s), or program(s) to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative, staffing resources in alignment with the strategic plan.
    • Develops operating policies and procedures to comply with regulations, institutional policies, and unit objectives.
    • Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of full-time equivalent (FTE) highly technical employees; at times through a subordinate employee who acts in a team lead capacity.
    • May develop and audit the unit budget or financials. Responsible for contributing to the effective management of academic technology budgets; advocating for required funding to keep facilities and services aligned with the future of the institution.
    • Serves as a liaison representing the interests of the unit to internal and external stakeholders. Serves as the advocate for academic technology, providing leadership and oversight of academic technology operating at both the tactical and strategic levels, in partnership with the CIO, CATL director and Academic Affairs. Provides direction in integrating and supporting various instructional technologies for teaching and learning to enhance the educational experience.
    • Advises divisional leadership on best practices on information technology operations, business and new technology opportunities.
    • Supports CATL and academic programs to integrate forward thinking technology into teaching and scholarship.
    • Supports the education of faculty and students about the effective use of technologies, such as the operation of classroom equipment, lightboards, etc.
    • Oversees the effective delivery of classroom technology support and design, including highly technologically enhanced pedagogical spaces.
    • Oversees the effective delivery of campus audio-visual services, including occasional night and weekend support of high-profile campus events, such as commencement, Board of Trustees meetings, etc.

    QUALIFICATIONS:


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's degree in instructional design, education, information technology, a related discipline, or equivalent experience
    • A minimum of two years of information technology experience at a college or university
    • Experience consulting with instructors on best practices in the use of technology in a higher education environment
    • Experience contributing to the design and maintenance of smart classrooms and teaching spaces

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Supervision experience in an academic technology setting
    • Experience supporting the development of best practices in pedagogically effective classroom design and teaching methods
    • Experience and skill using learning management systems or technology, such as Canvas
    • Experience advocating for and advancing adoption of technology in teaching, learning, instructional design and distance education
    • The ability to analyze problems and direct cross-functional teams
    • Effective people management skills, provide direction, set priorities, and deliver coaching to support talent development
    • ITIL certified or the ability to obtain certification within six months of hire

    Position is a full-time Limited appointment. The primary work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., however, occasional evening and/or weekend work is expected.     SALARY INFORMATION

    Minimum salary of $90,000.

    This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

    BENEFIT DETAILS

    UW System provides an excellent benefits package to meet the diverse needs of its employees. This includes several health insurance options, with annual deductibles as low as $250/individual and $500/family. Our benefits package also includes dental, vision, several life insurance options, AD&D and Accident insurance and Flexible Spending and Health Savings Accounts. We participate in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS), where employer contributions begin immediately and employees are fully vested after 5 years of service. The UW System also provides supplemental retirement savings programs including a 403(b) and Deferred Compensation.

    In addition, employees receive several types of paid leave benefits, which are prorated for employees working less than 100%. This includes 9 legal holidays, 36 hours of personal holiday and between 96-130 hours of sick leave annually. Employees earn 13-27 days of vacation each year, depending on years of service and employment type.
