Academic Advising Director directs the academic advising department, its processes, and its advisors. Works closely with academic advisors to ensure that a proactive and high-quality approach is taken with all students advising needs. Being an Academic Advising Director assists Dean or Associate Dean in the preparation and implementation of department wide goals, procedures, and controls. Analyzes existing goals and programs and recommends improvements. Additionally, Academic Advising Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to the associate dean. The Academic Advising Director manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes.   • The Director of College and Academic Advising supports the mission of Cypress Christian School by leading the daily operations of the guidance program. The Director will create and facilitate programs to assist and educate students and parents about the college application process. The Director will maintain relationships with colleges and universities in order to lead the effort in the creation and submission of school materials in support of students applying to college and other post-high school programs. The Director of College and Academic Advising will work under the supervision of the High School Principal.


    Responsibilities:


    Assist in evaluating students’ enrollment status.

    • Assist with new family interviews.
    • Meet with each new family to evaluate student’s transcript and discuss course options/requirements.
    • Evaluate and provide information on courses to be made up for missing credits.

    Maintain confidentiality of all privileged or sensitive information.

    • Review all student report cards each quarter.
    • Review all student transcripts at the end of each semester.
    • Calculate grade point average and class rank each semester.
    • Receive and record all test scores/information.
    • Collect and record all college acceptances/denials and scholarship awards.

    Responsible for the development of college and academic guidance services at CCS.

    • Attend annual ACT and College Board college updates.
    • Attend Counselor Roundtable Discussions.
    • Attend annual State and National TACAC, NACAC, and NACCAP Conferences when possible, along with local and regional events when offered.

    Responsible for the implementation of academic guidance services at CCS.

    • Review each student’s transcript annually to determine graduation needs.
    • Assist students and parents in the selection of proper classes during their education at CCS through student and parent meetings.
    • Counsel and assist students with academic problems including options to recover course credit due to failure.
    • Assign Career and Interest Assessments for students to complete.
    • Inform students and parents of current college requirements, trends, etc.
    • Assist in directing students as they apply to colleges and for scholarship opportunities including writing letters of recommendation.
    • Assist in the process for the compilation and mailing of college application packets, including school letters of recommendation, faculty letters of recommendation, forms, essays, and other required parts.
    • Work closely with the English department faculty on gaining assistance in working with students on academic résumés and college essays.
    • Inform families of financial aid opportunities for college and plan annual Financial Aid Meeting.
    • Celebrate college acceptances and scholarships.

    Responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with colleges.

    • Coordinate with college representatives for visits to CCS.
    • Plan and execute annual Freshman College Tour.
    • Plan and execute annual College Fair.

    Responsible for all High School testing.

    • Order and proctor PSAT (fall: 9-11 grade), ACT (fall: 10-12 grade, spring: 11-12 grade), SAT (fall: 12 grade, spring: 11-12 grade), AP Exams (spring: 11-12 grade).
    • Schedule rooms and proctors for all students, including accommodated students.
    • Secure and train proctors.
    • Communicate test plans and results to parents and students through emails and meetings.

    Responsible for planning of Awards Ceremony, Senior Reception, and Graduation.

    • Order diplomas and graduation items (NHS stoles, Val. and Sal. stoles, etc).
    • Prepare Awards Ceremony and Graduation scripts and program materials.
    • Contact presenters and speakers for ceremonies.

    Responsible for High School Master Schedule and student scheduling.

    • Stay informed of state course requirements and trends.
    • Work with administration on course offerings, section numbers, and staffing needs.
    • Meet with parents and students to discuss course options.
    • Create Master Schedule Plan and enroll students.
    • Distribute information for specific scheduled courses, e.g., dual credit registration.
    • Coordinate with Dual Credit colleges on school and teacher agreements.
    • Coordinate with Dual Credit colleges on student registration and payment.

    Coordinate with Office of Admissions and Marketing.

    • Provide marketing details of current classes, e.g., ACT scores, scholarship totals, and college matriculation list.
    • Attend/speak at prospective parent events as needed.

    Be available to all faculty and staff to assist when necessary.

    • Communicate often and effectively with staff.
    • Hear ideas and concerns.
    • Attend appropriate school functions such as Blue/White Night, School Member Meeting, Parent Meetings, etc.
    • Work with the Secondary School administrative team and counseling staff on issues and projects, particularly as they relate to the college process.

    Other duties as assigned.


    Qualifications:

    • One who has received Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord
    • A mature Christian, knowledgeable of biblical truth and its application to school administration
    • Qualified for spiritual leadership
    • Preferred MA or MS degree in counseling or similar
    • Preferred 5 or more years of teaching experience or student services experience
    • Committed to excellence in Christian school education
    • A student of the philosophy and objectives of Christian education
    • In good physical and mental health
    • Able to make sound decisions based on best practices and biblical principles
    • Maintains an ongoing program of professional growth requirements and satisfies personal expectations as a professional
    • Able to submit to authority of the High School Principal, V.P. of Academics and President
    • Administrative experience at the appropriate level preferred
