Academic Advising Director directs the academic advising department, its processes, and its advisors. Works closely with academic advisors to ensure that a proactive and high-quality approach is taken with all students advising needs. Being an Academic Advising Director assists Dean or Associate Dean in the preparation and implementation of department wide goals, procedures, and controls. Analyzes existing goals and programs and recommends improvements. Additionally, Academic Advising Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to the associate dean. The Academic Advising Director manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. To be an Academic Advising Director typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 to 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Salary & Benefit

    The annual salary is $65,000. Successful internal candidates for external job postings should be aware that their current salary does not transfer to the new position. Salary will be as advertised in the job announcement. Full-time employees of Eastern Florida State College receive fringe benefits including health insurance and a retirement plan.

    Position Concept

    Responsible for the design, implementation and evaluation of advising systems and strategies collegewide. Supports the development, implementation and evaluation of advising pathways designed to support a comprehensive planning and enrollment process that leads students to degree completion. Provides a continuous training and development program for advisors. Oversees special projects such as new student orientation, academic pathways, and creation of student educational plans based on guided pathways. Supervises campus-based and collegewide advising staff. Recommends personnel for hire. Provides evaluations and performance feedback accordingly and in a timely manner.

    Minimum Qualifications

    The following minimum qualifications for this position must be met before any applicant will be considered:

    • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution required.
    • At least three years related experience and/or training in advising.
    • Demonstrated experience as a supervisor.
    • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to student services.
    • Experience and/or working knowledge of enrollment and recruiting functions.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously and complete assigned work within deadlines.
    • Skilled in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
    • Ability to provide leadership, work as a team member, and be effective in relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
    • Ability to diagnose systems issues and design strategies to remediate and improve.
    • Ability to work effectively in a diverse community and meet the needs of diverse student populations.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook – Working knowledge of Banner and/or other EFSC student related software preferred.
    • Experience in assigned advisor model.
    • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
    • Ability to travel between campuses and off-site locations.
    • Valid Florida Motor Vehicle Operator’s license required.
    • This position will require successful fingerprinting and the candidate chosen will be required to pay the associated fee (currently $37.25).This fingerprinting fee ($37.25) is non-refundable.

    • High School Diploma or GED or transcripts or official transcripts of all collegiate work (as appropriate for the position) must be sent directly from the attended institution to the Human Resources Office prior to the first day of employment. All foreign degrees must have a course-by-course official evaluation and translation sent to the Human Resources Office directly from an evaluation company affiliated with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc.

    Minimum physical qualifications:

    • Ability to sit at a desk and view a display screen for extended periods of time.
    • Ability to access, input and retrieve information and/or data from a computer.
    • Ability to work inside an office environment.
    • to work evening and weekend hours as necessary.
