    The Weissman School of Arts and Sciences is one of three schools in Baruch College.     The Office of Graduate Studies supports the full life cycle of graduate students from the moment of application inquiry through graduation, in six graduate programs. They are an MA program in Arts Administration, MA program in Corporate Communication, MS program in Financial Engineering, MS program in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Executive MS program in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and an MA program in Mental Health Counseling. Reporting to the Director of Graduate Programs for the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences, the successful candidate for the position of Associate Director of Career and Academic Advising will assume a leadership role in the design and delivery of creative approaches to career education and planning. Weissman’s Office of Graduate Studies is dedicated to assisting our graduate students and alumni with the services and resources needed to have successful, rewarding careers in the fields of Arts Administration, Corporate Communication, Financial Engineering, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, and Mental Health Counseling.

    Primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

    • Develop orientation programs to engage and retain students, and to prepare them for career development during their academic program.

    • Provide academic and career advising to Weissman graduate students.

    • Consults with faculty, staff, campus clubs/organizations, administrators, and employers regarding students' career development needs, with a direct connection to academic career planning.

    • Works individually and in groups providing both academic advisement and career preparation and job search techniques including course planning, strengths assessment, resume writing, interviewing techniques, networking, LinkedIn, etc.

    • Provides International student specific advisement related to academic and career planning.

    • Collaborate with other academic and administrative offices to maintain a comprehensive student academic and career advisement program.

    • Instruct students, faculty and staff on use of advising and career planning technologies.

    •Provides information to students regarding student support services, college policies and program procedures.

    •Designs and produces outcomes assessment reports; reviews outcomes and feedback and recommendsstrategies to expand and improve services.

    •Supervises part-time staff

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor's Degree and six years' related experience required.

    OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

    A Master's degree is preferred. Experience in higher education and college counseling is preferred. Prior experience with students and employers in a graduate setting is a plus. The successful candidate will have the established ability to manage multiple responsibilities that are time sensitive and require careful attention to detail. The ability to set priorities, exercise sound judgment, and interact with students, employers, faculty and staff in a professional and thoughtful manner are essential. Strong oral and written communication skills and knowledge of Microsoft applications are equally essential. Experience with career services tools such a Symplicity, social media platforms and web based communications and resources preferred. Evenings until 6pm are required. Some late evenings and weekend hours may be required. Some travel may be required.

    • Directs a portfolio of targeted career programs, such as mentoring, internship, and alumni programs

    • Manages one or more aspects of career office operations, such as on-campus recruiting

    • Evaluates new technologies, assessment materials, and other career tools, makes recommendations, and acquires/implements them

    • May counsel a limited number of students

    • Performs related duties as assigned.
