Academic Advising Director directs the academic advising department, its processes, and its advisors. Works closely with academic advisors to ensure that a proactive and high-quality approach is taken with all students advising needs. Being an Academic Advising Director assists Dean or Associate Dean in the preparation and implementation of department wide goals, procedures, and controls. Analyzes existing goals and programs and recommends improvements. Additionally, Academic Advising Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to the associate dean. The Academic Advising Director manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. To be an Academic Advising Director typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 to 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Muir Wood Adolescent & Family Services is a residential treatment program designed specifically for teens ages 12-17 suffering from mental health and substance abuse conditions. The Muir Wood environment helps build strong peer relationships essential in early recovery, many of which blossom into enduring friendships. Our programs fill a crucial need by making mental healthcare available to the vast majority of families in need.


    The primary purpose of the Academic Assistant is to provide supervision for our clients and to ensure their safety while building rapport with them. The includes providing assistance in the classroom and handling individual problems, collaborate with residents’ home schools and parents, and actively participate in the academic team as a member of the residential treatment program.


    Essential Functions and Responsibilities

    • Update and print Daily Individual Academic Goals Worksheet 
    • Add new client information in the Academic Plans document 
    • Notify Teachers and update Academic Plans with any email replies from parents
    • Set up the classroom every morning and hand out supplies and zoom computers
    • Update and facilitate all Zoom Schedules and Calls for clients regarding academic work
    • Monitor GoGuardian and take notes/redirect as necessary; train new Care Coordinators accordingly
    • Maintain record of academic activity for each client in all classrooms
    • Create Weekly Academic Reports for all classrooms, and assist with uploading to KIPU
      and emailing to families/therapists as needed
    • 1:1 assistance with students as needed for help with academic work
    • Provide substitute teacher support to cover classrooms as needed
    • Maintain organization of all Classroom Closets/Supplies
    • Stay current with Shift Notes and Census changes
    • Send out all Welcome Letters and Introductory Emails to parents of new clients.
    • Facilitate Orientation and Classroom Guidelines/Expectations with new clients and uploads signed Rules To Kipu
    • Create new client’s MWSTUDENTS accounts and adds to GoGuardian
    • Facilitate all Doctor’s Notes for Schools 
    • Check in, document, and monitor all Textbooks and Supplies of new Clients, taking note of each in the Academic Plans Doc, and pick up Textbooks/Supplies from Petaluma City Schools if necessary
    • Run periodic audits of Kipu to ensure everything is updated and current.
    • Stay current with all Kipu tabs/other department notes to help identify any HotSpots to Teachers regarding any changes in Client Treatment that could have effects in the classroom
    • Log and update information for clients in the Certificate of Completion Spreadsheet
    • Help maintain Discharged Clients Notes Worksheet 
    • Ensure Students are sent home with their books, documents, and supplies.
    • Help provide classroom orientation and training of new Care Coordinators. 


    Requirements


    • High School Diploma; Bachelor's Degree preferred
    • Strong written and communication skills
    • Ability to function as part of a treatment team
    • Prior work experience in the treatment and/or classroom setting with adolescents is a plus

    Compensation: $22.00 - $25.00/hour
