Academic Advising Director directs the academic advising department, its processes, and its advisors. Works closely with academic advisors to ensure that a proactive and high-quality approach is taken with all students advising needs. Being an Academic Advising Director assists Dean or Associate Dean in the preparation and implementation of department wide goals, procedures, and controls. Analyzes existing goals and programs and recommends improvements. Additionally, Academic Advising Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to the associate dean. The Academic Advising Director manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. To be an Academic Advising Director typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 to 3 years supervisory experience may be required.      • Directly supervises Academic Advisor positions and leads on writing/interpreting policy
     • Responsible for operating within fiscal parameters and providing input to budgetary processes 
     • Directs or supports the hiring, training, knowledge sharing, and evaluation of academic advising staff 
     • Develops resources to increase advising effectiveness and efficiency 
     • Coordinates selective program admission and other advising processes 
     • Oversees student communications 
     • Represents a large department or college on advising councils and by maximizing collaboration with UAZ advising units
     • Provides support for the development of UAccess Analytics reporting 
     • Manages the creation and maintenance of advising documents and web resources, including Arizona Transfer Pathways, planning guides, program applications, and course rotations 
     • Develops relationships with community partners 
     • Collaborates with Assistant/Associate Deans to coordinate and oversee student programs and provide direction and leadership 
     • Champions student engagement and success by providing vision and leadership to academic advising professionals 

    Curricular Planning, Assessment, Retention, and Analytics:
     • Partners with other academic advising functional areas and leadership for needs assessment, process improvements, recommended solutions and implementation of academic advising programs/initiatives 
     • Analyzes data to track things like student retention and graduation rates
     • Oversees all catalog changes, guides College leadership on curricular needs and issues
     • Reviews curricular plans regularly, engage in curricular conversations and committees
     • Collaborates with others on teaching schedules, general education plans, and assessment
     • Partners with other academic advising functional areas and leadership for needs assessment, process improvements, recommended solutions and implementation of academic advising programs/initiatives

    Management, Leadership, and Coordination:
     • Creats and manages a student ambassador program
     • Builds projects which champion student engagement and success
     • Builds campus partnerships for needs assessments and process improvements
     • Manages employees and is accountable for the performance and results of a team
     • Provides guidance to employees, colleagues and/or customers 
     • Adapts departmental plans or priorities to address resource and operational challenges; establishes and influences operating policies and contributes to policy/program development 
     • Works closely with College leadership and may serve as a proxy for senior leadership as necessary
