Academic Advisor advises university/college students in course and major selection, requirements for selected area of concentration, and post-college plans. Assists students in setting academic goals, course planning and career development. Being an Academic Advisor may work with individual students or groups. Requires a bachelor's degree in counseling or related field or its equivalent. Additionally, Academic Advisor typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Academic Advisor gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in public administration, business administration, education administration, or a related field
At least three years of relevant experience in education administration, business administration or a related setting
Applicable equivalencies may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a higher education setting as a student advisor or in a position with knowledge of university systems
Experience working with international students
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of the work-related subject area, computers, and Microsoft Office software applications
Ability to prepare, present, and review oral and written information and reports
Ability to research and analyze related work program information
Ability to develop, recommend, interpret and apply policies and procedures
Ability to communicate with staff, faculty, and students
Additional Information:
This position is renewable annually based on continued need for the position, availability of funding, and satisfactory job performance.
