    Job Summary
    Xavier University of Louisiana is seeking to hire an Academic Advisor for its newest initiative, the Career Readiness, Academic Efficacy, Resilience, and Engagement (CARE) Program. Through a supportive network, CARE provides first year, first generation students with connected opportunities to prepare, perform, and progress during their time at Xavier. Two positions are available.

    Reporting to the Director for Academic Success in the Student Academic Success Office, the Academic Advisor will serve as a CARE Coach and will work collaboratively with other members of the CARE Network to support and motivate first-generation students on their journey to earning their bachelor’s degree.

    Xavier University of Louisiana is particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and who have demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for disadvantaged and first-generation students. AA/EOE

    Minimum Qualifications
    • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in counseling and guidance, college student personnel, educational administration, student affairs, or related field.
    • Two years of academic advising, retention, or counseling services (with at least 1 year in a higher education environment).
    • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders (students, colleagues, administrators), both verbally and in writing.
    • Must possess diplomacy, confidentiality, and strong relationship-building skills.
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills, especially with students.
    • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of products and Google platforms.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Three years of academic advising, retention, or counseling services (with at least 1 year in a higher education environment).
    • Professional coaching certification
    • Experience presenting to students and facilitating workshops.
    • Knowledge of advising theory and models of development advising.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative environment.
    • Excellent oral, written communication skills, and organizational skills.
    • Working knowledge of Banner, EAB Navigate, and Degree Works

    Special Requirements Summary
    Local and regional travel may be required.

    Work Hours
    • Full-Time, 40 Hours/Week.
    • Some evenings and weekends required.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities Description
    • Assists CARE Students with creating individualized academic plans and provides accountability; works closely with the Office of Career Services to provide career/pathway exploration and planning.
    • Collaborates with faculty to enhance achievement of student learning objectives.
    • Serves as liaison between students, staff, faculty and administrators.
    • Connects CARE Students with campus resources, provide referral services, and develop appropriate interventions.
    • Supports students with academic alerts; uses resources to assist CARE Students in identifying their strengths and opportunities for improvement.
    • Builds strong, trusting relationships with CARE Students.
    • Works collaboratively with other members of the CARE Network to ensure all CARE Students are well supported.
    • Supervises and works collaboratively with CARE Colleagues to support CARE Students.
    • Assists with organizing and conducting programming (workshops, brown bags, and other presentations) for the benefit of CARE Students.
    • Assists the CARE Director in developing assessment reports, including developing CARE Program goals and objectives, revising yearly outcomes, reviewing national statistics, and other data collection and assessment responsibilities.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    • Works with the Student Academic Success Office team to develop new programs and activities to promote student’s academic success, personal growth, and leadership skills.
