    Position Summary:
    The Academic Support Coordinator facilitates programs for students with learning differences, including direct instruction in study skills, in the Panthers Achieving Worthwhile Success (PAWS) Program within the Panthers’ Learning Center and manages information about students with diagnosed learning differences. The Academic Support Coordinator is responsible for supporting a dynamic web of communication between students with learning differences, parents, and the teaching staff, and for taking an active role in the identification and remediation of individual student learning issues in order to help promote and support academic achievement. The Academic Support Coordinator facilitates coherence and continuity of the Panthers’ Learning Center overall program and responds to issues relevant to the academic, social, and emotional well-being of students.

    Responsibilities:
    • Maintain electronic and paper files for students with diagnosed learning differences to support teachers and parents’ needs as well as to meet College Board/ACT standards.
    • Read and interpret learning specialists’ evaluations; make suggestions for appropriate accommodations and pedagogy and publish an Academic Accommodation Plan to be implemented at PJP.
    • Prepare presentations and assessment criteria for faculty regarding student accommodation plans and learning differences.
    • Work with individual students and families:
    • Conduct individual and small group sessions for students on specific learning strategies for students enrolled in the Panthers Achieving Worthwhile Success Program through the Panther Performance class.
    • Run focused groups for rostered students as needed.
    • Initiate conversations with students and their parents to discuss strategies and set goals around learning issues and for college/career planning.
    • Communicate on a regular basis with parents of students with accommodations to review learning goals and progress. Facilitate annual team meetings with parents to set and review goals and monitor progress.
    • Serve as an advocate for individual students with regard to classroom accommodations; engage individual and small groups of faculty in discussions about students’ needs.
    • Track individual students' progress through classroom observations, assessments, regular grade monitoring, and initiate relevant support strategies are identified as potentially having an undiagnosed learning difference.
    • Make referrals for professional evaluations for students who are identified as potentially having an undiagnosed learning difference in conjunction with the Guidance office.
    • Assist as a proctor with the testing program for students with approved testing accommodations.
    Miscellaneous duties:
    • Review applications of transfer students and applying 8th grade students with diagnosed learning differences and provide support to the admissions team’s decision-making process.
    • Provide intermittent support to students with temporary academic needs due to illness or injury.
    • Serve as a member of the Academic Intervention Team.
    • Complete other duties as assigned, including participation in evening open houses and other major school events.
    • Position is contingent upon reaching and maintaining targeted PAWS program enrollment.
    Ideal candidates will have a minimum of a Master’s Degree with a background in Special Education, Social Work, or experience with teaching and implementing academic accommodations in a high school setting.
    This is a 12-month position.
