Reports to: Supervision is received from the Director of Academic, Career, & Transfer Advising.
Supervision Exercised: None.
Job Summary
Provide academic and transfer advising for current and prospective Rock Valley College students. Provide academic and transfer advising services primarily at the Mulford Road location, but also Samuelson Road Center (SAML), Rock Valley College Downtown (RVC-D), Advanced Technology Center (ATC), and Aviation Career Education Center (ACEC) as needed
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Related/other duties may be assigned.
- Provide information to current and prospective students regarding class selection, degree requirements, and transfer requirements.
- Support all students assigned via case management student support model. Academic advising, academic success, retention support, degree completion and transfer planning support.
- Assist students with scheduling of classes.
- Make accurate referrals to students for, but not limited to, career advising and personal counseling.
- Collect data and complete reports as requested by supervisor/Dean of Advising and Retention.
- Work with students in the development of educational goals and the implementation of plans to meet those goals.
- Compile transfer information, course changes, and other relative internal change information and provide this information to the advising and counseling staff and students on a timely basis.
- Teach Student Development classes (STU 100 Planning for Success/STU 101 Career Planning), as needed or appropriate.
- Lead and/or assist with New Student Orientation and/or recruitment registration events.
- Lead group academic advising meetings.
- Assist as needed with Student Affairs, Enrollment and Retention Initiatives.
- Serve on Rock Valley College committees as needed.
- Assist with the coordination of Private and Independent Colleges and University Day (PICU).
- Assist with the coordination of State University Transfer Day.
- Assist with developing and updating transfer guides.
- Coordinate transfer campus visits on and off campus.
- Provide additional student support as determined by Director of Academic, Career, & Transfer Advising or Dean of Advising and Retention.
- Regular attendance is expected.
- Using tact and courtesy, the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with persons contacted in the course of work.
- Nights and/or weekends may be required.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required. Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Counseling, Educational Counseling, Adult Education, or related field is highly preferred. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse students, faculty, and staff is necessary. Strong oral and written communication skills are necessary. Student academic advising experience is preferred. Experience in post-secondary education is preferred. Fluency in Spanish is highly desirable.
