Academic Advisor advises university/college students in course and major selection, requirements for selected area of concentration, and post-college plans. Assists students in setting academic goals, course planning and career development. Being an Academic Advisor may work with individual students or groups. Requires a bachelor's degree in counseling or related field or its equivalent. Additionally, Academic Advisor typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Academic Advisor gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.   • Job Description
    Under the supervision of the Academic Advisement Director, the Academic Advisor engages students in decision making processes and promotes appropriate and responsible choices on academic and behavioral matters. Maintains appropriate confidentiality, updates student advising records, and contributes to the development and delivery of academic advising related events and programs.

    Responsibilities
    Utilizes Naviance student inventories to ensure academic advising and strategic course planning align with student needs.

    Assists and supports administration in the identification of student issues, needs, and difficulties.

    Provides Academic counseling to students who are demonstrating poor academic performance.

    Assists with course scheduling and course requests with students.

    Communicates strategies supporting student achievement with faculty, staff, and school community.

    Interprets student records and ensures student records are maintained as per state and federal regulations.

    Supports in the implementation and communication of programs and events related to student life.

    Assists in the planning and execution of standardized assessments (PSAT, SAT) and the Advanced Placement (AP) program.

    Assists with college fairs and student academic advising presentations.

    Coordinates the Career Expo/Career Day event.

    Attends Admissions events, open house, CCS graduation, and other CCS special events as requested.

    Performs other duties as assigned.

    Education & Experience
    Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
    Two years’ experience of academic advising.


    Knowledge of student advising, student development theory, and/or career development theory.

    Knowledge of and ability to coordinate programs, develop event assessments, and utilize technology.

    Knowledge of the rules, regulations, and laws regarding student records and ability to apply them.

    Copier, fax, telephone, and other equipment applicable to position.

    Physical Requirements/Environmental Factors
    While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk or stand, talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 15 pounds occasionally, and more than 40 pounds infrequently with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.

    Monday – Friday year-round schedule
    Hours and locations may vary according to business need.
