    Attention Candidates:

    This job posting is for two (2) open positions.

    Both positions are identical in job duties and requirements.

    Under the general direction of the Assistant Director of Student Advising and Support Services, the Part-Time Academic Advisor will also support the general advising needs of the department by providing educational planning, career and transfer exploration and academic success support for students enrolled in Cascadia's transfer programs. The Academic Advisor will apply equity-focused and transformational advising practices that provide accessible, equitable and superior educational experiences to every person to achieve their educational and career goals. The advisor will deliver services in individual and group settings via in person, by telephone, email or virtual settings.

    As a Part-Time Academic Advisor, it is expected that the following qualities will be demonstrated daily: a high degree of understanding and empathy for all students, faculty, staff and visitors, as well as the ability to encourage the inclusion of all voices in decision-making, promoting equity in all areas, and actively working against institutionalized norms of oppression against historically marginalized people.

    Employee Type: Part Time Exempt, Permanent (up to 16 hours per week, two (2) days per week)

    Initial Salary: $24,515.11 annually, inclusive of 5% King County Premium Pay (KCPP)

    Supervising Position: Assistant Director of Student Advising and Support Services
    Essential Duties

    General Transfer Student Advising:
      • Assist students with course selection and supporting academic progress.
      • Assist students with short-term and long-term academic planning, major, transfer, and career exploration.
      • Interpret test scores and unofficial transcripts to determine placements and unofficial course evaluations.
      • Deliver individual and/or group advising via in person, by telephone, email or video conference modality.
      • Apply transformational advising methods to promote student success.
      • Connect student to campus and off-campus resources.
      • Design instructional materials in support of departmental goals (e.g. handouts, webpages, Canvas sites, etc.).
      • Design and present workshops and class presentations in support of departmental goals.
    Performs other related duties of a similar nature or level as assigned.

    Education and Experience:

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience working in student services at a postsecondary institution, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Demonstrated commitment to and interest in diversity, equity and inclusion and the ability to support a multicultural workplace and educational environment.
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • One year of experience helping individuals navigate complex systems.
    • Experience using technology in the delivery of services (such as Zoom, Microsoft Office, database, and Customer Relations Management (CRM) software).
    • One year of experience supporting students in an educational setting.
    • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering relevant presentations to diverse audiences.
    • Ability to successfully communicate (written and orally) in a language in addition to English.
    Physical Work Environment

    Semi-Sedentary Work: Involves staying in a stationary position to a significant degree. Jobs are sedentary if moving is required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

    The College is currently in hybrid operations, with many assignments completed in an online environment during this time. This position is expected to work two (2) days per week, with occasional option to work remotely. One (1) of the scheduled work days will involve working evening hours until 7:30pm. Employees will need to provide their own remote workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs. During on-campus operations, this position will perform work in a standard office setting, use standard office equipment and physically attend meetings both on and off campus and requires the ability to communicate in person or through appropriate means.

    Positions in this class typically require operating a computer, communicating, observing, and repetitive motions.

    This position involves exerting between 10-30 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to transport, put, install, remove, or otherwise move objects, with or without reasonable accommodation.
