    This is a full-time, 260-day position located on the Estherville Campus of Iowa Lakes Community College. The Academic Advisor will be responsible for a caseload of a minimum of 250 students enrolled in Career & Technical Education, AA/AS, and Transfer Pathways. Using a Guided Pathways approach, key responsibilities of this position include academic advising and course registration, monitoring academic and Pathway progress of assigned students, timely response to student inquiries, and proactively connecting students to academic resources and support services.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (% OF TIME):
    Constant (67-100%)
    • Advise assigned students and facilitate registration from Pathway entry to credential completion, degree completion, and/or transfer.

    • Monitor academic progress for assigned students pursuant to the Iowa Lakes Advising Plan.

    • Communicate with students, the Financial Aid office, faculty members, and administrators regarding student academic progress, including developing, maintaining, and supporting the successful completion of academic plan metrics to facilitate retention and completion.

    • Connect assigned students to appropriate support services that support student success.

    • Assist students with navigating Pathway progress and/or changes, credential completion and/or transfer, as well as eligibility requirements in areas such as athletic participation, housing, and financial aid funding/scholarship.

    • Collaborate with Continuing Education, Adult Education & Learning (AEL), High School Partnerships, Student Alternative Vocational Education (SAVE), and Community Education offices to facilitate and encourage student enrollment in credit-based Pathways.

    • Develop and maintain accurate, up-to-date academic records for assigned students. Pathway course enrollment, Pathway changes, and enrollment in recommended elective courses.

    • Collaborate with faculty members and program leads to facilitate and track Pathway course enrollment, Pathway changes, and enrollment in recommended elective courses.

    • Collaborate with academic advisors, program leads, the Director/Associate Director of Athletics, educational counselors, the Director of Academic Success, High School Partnerships, and other administrators to provide a student-centered, holistic approach to student success.

    Frequent (34-66%)

    • Review academic credential requirements (Diploma/Certificate, AAS, AA/AS, transfer) for assigned students.
    • Approve course enrollments and withdrawals pursuant to an intrusive advising model.
    • Communicate with incoming students regarding necessary documentation for admission or registration. Collaborate with students and offices of Admissions and Records to ensure accuracy and timely submission of records.
    • Explain academic policies and procedures to assigned students.
    • Communicate with Success Center staff regarding Pathway-aligned course screening, placement, and testing requirements.
    • Collaborate with faculty to address academic and non-academic barriers encountered by assigned students.
    • Participate in recruitment and student orientation events.
    • Monitor the satisfactory academic progress of assigned students on academic and/or financial aid probation to encourage and facilitate successful completion of courses and Pathway tracks.

    Occasional (10-33%)

    • Design, plan, and facilitate advising and transfer workshops for students.
    • Assist assigned students with the Iowa Lakes financial aid appeal process.
    • Assist assigned students with the Iowa Lakes academic appeal process.
    • Participate in campus visit days and annual College 101 event.
    • Connect students who require accommodations to both the Educational\Counseling office and campus Success Center.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    SPECIAL DEMANDS:

    Sedentary to light work. Position involves sitting most of the time and working in close contact with students and other individuals. Constant (67-100%) reaching, standing, walking, talking, hearing, repetitive motions and viewing various types of close visual work. Occasional (10-33%) stooping, crouching, pushing, pulling, and carrying. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally. Will be required to travel within community college service area utilizing personal vehicle. Some statewide or regional travel may be required.

    Employment with Iowa Lakes Community College is dependent upon successful passage of a criminal background check. Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree required.
    • Experience with academic advising or closely related field of student services.
    • Experience working with traditional and non-traditional students.
    • Commitment to professional development and continuous improvement.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Experience working within a Guided Pathways advising model.
    • Experience working with Multiple Measures.
    • Experience working with Dropout Detective, Canvas, Ellucian, Pathify, and/or similar software platforms.
    • Experience working with international students, student athletes, and/or ADA-accommodated students.
    • Experience with non-academic assessment.
    • Experience working in a data-driven, learner-centered environment.

    Salary: $46,000 for a 260-day contract
