Academic Support Coordinator assesses students' academic needs and proficiency, assists them in setting goals, connects them to appropriate resources, and provides ongoing support as needed. Coordinates with faculty advisors and staff to provide and support innovative programs that help students succeed. Being an Academic Support Coordinator coordinates tutoring for any students needing remedial instruction or English as a Second Language assistance. Requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Academic Support Coordinator typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Academic Support Coordinator gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.     Service Description

    AmeriCorps @ Georgia Tech is looking for an energetic and adaptable Academic Support Coodinator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for education and will be able to provide students with the high level mathematics and reading tutoring they may need.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Embark on a weekly journey of mentoring and tutoring bright young minds right in the heart of the school day!
    • Create a dynamic roadmap for academic support, exciting community ventures, and mind-expanding service learning escapades.
    • Dive into the after-school adventure with students, crafting engaging enrichment activities that light up their afternoons.
    • Infuse your unique brand of creativity and resourcefulness into unleashing the wonders of STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) for our awesome K-12 students!
    • Team up with the school to power up volunteer recruitment and orientation efforts, spreading the joy of making a difference.
    • Become a wizard of organization, assisting the Program Director and Outreach Coordinator in the sacred art of record-keeping.
    • Craft compelling storylines through summary reports that capture the amazing impact you're making on students' lives.
    • Embark on a journey of growth and development through our thrilling lineup of professional development sessions.
    • Embrace the spirit of flexibility as you joyfully tackle any other service duties that come your way.

    Education:

    • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
    • Bachelor's Degree (Preferred)

    Qualifications:

    • Passionate about K-8 education
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English speaking).
    • Strong Command of Mathematics up to 9th Grade (must be able to transfer knowledge to others)
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
    • A flexible thinker who is willing to lead and learn
    • Proficient in Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, & Forms)
    • Able to learn and use Outlook quickly
    • Ability to multi-task, be self-motivated, self-directed, organized, detail-oriented, self-confident, and have the ability to work in a collaborative environment.
    • Must be able to lift 50 pounds unassisted.

    More About AmeriCorps:

    • This is an AmeriCorps position. AmeriCorps is a National Service Program, in which individuals dedicate their time to improving lives and fostering civic engagement. Georgia Tech's AmeriCorps program is a 11-month commitment, in which members serve in elementary and middle schools and other local nonprofits. Over the 11 month period (September-July), members serve full-time and receive a bi-monthly living stipend and an education award once their service term is complete.
