    We are searching for an experienced Academic Support – Multi Duty – Traditional Eastern Arts at our Arapahoe Campus facility.

    Compensation: $250 per semester

    Job Summary
    The Department of Traditional Eastern Arts seeks to hire one academic support for the Spring 2024 course listed below. This course is 3.0 credit hours and will be taught as a fully residential on-campus course for the entire semester, January 16 – May 17, 2024.

    Course Description:
    TRA110/210/510/530 (3 Credits)
    We begin with centering ourselves and bringing that awareness to the situation of conflict. We simultaneously practice the kata of clean, powerful attacks and harmonious defense responses, and ukemi, the art of falling. We emphasize extending energy and transforming the encounter to one of excitement and harmony. Bokken-aikido sword is introduced. We establish links to the aikido lineage and training communities. We support our embodied experience by reading and reporting on texts of aikido history, philosophy, and technique. We study other contemporary sensei through video and visits to seminars. We journal our practice and write reflection papers. Cross-listed as TRA510.

    Job Duties & Responsibilities

    • Monitor and assist in the instruction of the practice.
    • Coordinating and leading optional groups sessions.
    • Support the faculty of record, as needed.
    • Assisting faculty with recording of grades for course assignments.
    • Assisting faculty with the development of the online course on the CANVAS Learning Management System.
    • Assisting faculty with preparation and delivery of instruction.
    • Providing technological support for CANVAS, Zoom, and email communications.
    • Complete any and all faculty and staff trainings as required by the Human Resources Office, the Office of Academic Affairs, or the Office of Information Technology/Distance Learning within the time period set for completion by those departments.
    • Other duties as assigned.


    Required Qualifications

    • 2-3 years of study in Aikido, history and philosophy.
    • Some aikido teaching training or equivalent, preferred.
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a close team, working collaboratively with course instructor and students.

    Physical Requirements & Environmental Conditions

    Academic Support members spend most of their time in their classrooms with some time in offices. In the classrooms and on campus may experience: interruptions, distractions, heat, cold, dust and/or dampness. As a faculty member, you may spend extended periods in front of students and speaking as well as:

    • Reading academic texts and materials, student papers, etc.
    • Operating personal computer and audio-visual equipment.
    • Standing or sitting for hours at a time.
    • Moving around campus for classes and meetings.

    Naropa’s health and welfare benefits include the following: medical, dental, vision, FSA, HSA, employer-paid short-term and long-term disability, employer-paid life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment, an employer-sponsored pre-tax retirement savings plan, which includes up to 2.5% employer matching, and a variety of voluntary, employee-paid supplemental insurance plans.
    A comprehensive benefits package is available to full-time employees who work a minimum of 30 hours each week. Employees who work 20 – 29 hours each week are eligible for only the employer-paid short-term & long-term disability, employer-paid life insurance & accidental death and dismemberment, and the retirement plan, which includes up to 2.5% employer matching.

    Employees who work fewer than 20 hours per week are eligible to participate in Naropa’s retirement plan only, which includes up to 2.5% employer matching.

    All regular full-time and part-time faculty and staff, including student workers, accrue sick leave benefits. Full-time and part-time staff positions accrue vacation and personal time. All leave accrual rates vary based on the position, hours worked, and years of service.
