ABOUT US:
St. Peter's Surgery & Endoscopy Center is a freestanding ambulatory surgery center specializing in gastroenterology procedures and multispecialty surgeries, Monday - Friday. No nights, weekends, holidays, or on-call.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Patient Account Representative is responsible for entering surgical procedures into the medical software program, verifying medical benefits, confirming patients’ financial responsibility, verifying insurance, insurance accuracy from registration, and ensuring facility compliance. The Patient Account Representative will be cross trained in other functions of the business office. The Patient Account Representative reports directly to the Business Office Manager.
· Schedules all outpatient surgeries and procedures as requested by the attending physician or the attending physician’s office staff.
· Ensures accurate payor and responsible party information for all patients is entered into the system.
· Assists the Scheduler with insurance verification of medical benefits for all patients scheduled at the surgery center including the accurate documentation of benefits.
· Captures complete and accurate patient clinical, demographic and insurance information.
· Communicates same day and next day add-on cases, scheduling conflicts, and any patient problems.
· Tracks cancellations and monitors and maintains block time
· Performs other clerical duties as directed by the Business Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· High school graduate.
· Minimum of 2 years benefits knowledge of local payors preferably in an ambulatory surgery center, business office of an acute care hospital, or medical office.
· Ability to perform accurate arithmetic functions and must be comfortable working with percentages.
· Knowledge of alphabetical filing methods.
· Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
· Competency in oral and written skills.
· Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner.
· Two (2) years experience using a medical software system as well as Windows Office
