  • Fisher Farms is a wholesale plant nursery seeking a skilled and experienced Accountant to join our team. This is a key position with the company and is responsible for the overall accounting and financial functions of the organization while working closely with the General Manager. The Accountant is instrumental in helping create and implement policies and procedures to identify, resolve and document issues in addition to creating procedures to make reporting processes more efficient and accurate. This is a key role that offers upward mobility and opportunities for growth and advancement within the organization.

    Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

    • Prepare and analyze the financial statements, general ledger, subsidiary ledgers, and budgets on a monthly and yearly basis in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
    • Assist in maintaining the timeliness of financial statements, bank reconciliations, and all other monthly reporting/closing procedures.
    • Review and reconcile accounts payable, accounts receivable, and maintain a schedule of all balance sheet accounts.
    • Contribute to the development of accounting procedures and strategies to improve efforts, record keeping, and account management including exploring new tools and software.
    • Monthly budget variance analysis
    • Adhere to daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly deadline requirements.
    • Supervise the Accounting Specialist (AP/AR) and train them on accounting procedures.
    • Maintaining vendor relationships by managing the purchasing process.
    • Ensuring compliance with lender agreements, including compliance with any financial reporting requirements.

    Candidate Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Economics, or Finance strongly preferred.
    • Must have considerable knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) including application within the context of nursery and agriculture.
    • Ability to work independently, self-directed, and with high attention to detail.
    • Requires excellent oral and written communication skills as well as strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Accurately complete work when under pressure to meet deadlines.
    • Must have excellent organizational and communication skills.
    • Proficient computer skills/knowledge, including Microsoft Word and Excel and accounting software applications, required.
    • Work effectively with all levels of employees while inspiring respect and credibility.
    • Accurately perform multiple tasks in a complex and fast-paced operating environment.
    • QuickBooks Desktop and PlantX experience strongly preferred.
