GEM Technologies, Inc. (GEM) is seeking an Associate Accountant to join our team at N3B Los Alamos, a Legacy Cleanup Contract for the U.S. Department of Energy Environmental Management’s Los Alamos Field Office. This position is full-time with an expected duration through June 2023 and will serve N3B in Los Alamos, NM.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and 3 yearsof relevant experience.

Knowledge of General ledger (accounting) systems & data – Deltek Costpoint preferred.

Ability to develop and maintain lower level data merged from the various business systems to support field analysis.

Must have intermediate level Excel experience including pivot table development, “V” look-ups, formulas, etc.

Ability to communicate well with all levels of management and field personnel both in written and verbal formats.

To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.

Due to the nature of the work, a U.S. Citizenship is required.

Overview:
- Support the Accounting and Finance Division by providing accounting services in multiple areas to include, logging, distributing, and tracking of invoices received for payment, invoice processing using Costpoint software, invoice preparation and submission, routine and special purpose reporting, working with other teams and vendors to resolve issues, maintaining historical records and providing backup to other Accounting and Finance team members.

Maintains records according to generally accepted accounting practices and company procedures.

Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions.

Distributes expenditures, encumbrances, receipts, and receivables according to schedules.

Performs statistical analyses to determine trends, estimates, and significant changes, and writes narrative reports explaining findings.

Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial position for other managers.

Audits contracts, orders, and vouchers, and prepares reports to substantiate individual transactions prior to settlement.

Determines proper handling of financial transactions and approves transactions within designated limits.

Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.

Installs, modifies, documents, and coordinates implementation of accounting systems and accounting control procedures.

Makes recommendations regarding the accounting of reserves, assets, and expenditures.

Collects appropriate data and prepares federal, state, and local reports and tax returns.
