Accounting Clerk jobs in Macon, GA

The Tax Office Accounting Clerk position is responsible for processing and recording transactions in order to maintain accurate accounting records for the Tax Commissioner’s Office.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

The following duties are representative of the work required for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. 

• Verifies previous day collections of property taxes, garbage service fees,  motor vehicle taxes/fees, and business license fees by cashiers to balance sheets.
• Scans checks and submits deposits through remote deposit system; submits deposits of cash through Versa safe cash vault. 
• Prints checks for authorized refund disbursements in accordance with established laws and department policies and procedures.
• Performs general clerical duties, including typing and filing.
• Assists other employees with accounting issues.

• Must possess a high school diploma or GED and have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in an accounting clerk position; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. 
• Experience working with accounting and banking software and Microsoft excel is required.
• Experience handling large quantities of cash and checks and working with automated deposit systems is desirable but not required. 
• Experience with accounts payable in a high-volume environment is desirable but not required.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Possession of a valid Georgia Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.

TRAVEL:

The Accounting Clerk III may be required to travel on occasion.  

The Accounting Clerk III must be knowledgeable of the following principles, procedures, and concepts:

• Knowledge of accounting operating and practices.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
• Skills in effective oral and written communication.
• Ability to work effectively with members of all levels within the organization. 
• Ability to show good judgment, consistency, timeliness, and respect in decision-making. 
• Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities at one time and consistently achieve results on a timely basis.
