Mobile Activity Specialist

  • The Mobile Activity Specialist works to support adults with developmental disabilities in making a positive difference in their lives while being in the community by:
    • assisting with daily living skills
    • teaching skills and modeling behavior to improve independence and responsible behavior.
    • implementing activities that are functional, person centered, community inclusive and age appropriate.
    • actively working with a diverse population of individuals with varying levels of skills and needs
    • assuring individuals receiving services are the focus of each day’s activities.
    • assisting individuals in development of skills that lead to greater independence, community membership, relationship-building, self-direction, and self-advocacy.
    • assuring individuals have opportunities of community integration throughout the day.
    1. Facilitate individualized, purposeful and diverse activities based upon participant interests, strengths, needs, and choices as described in the Individual Service Plan. Incorporate various teaching strategies utilizing available curriculum and encompassing all areas of life domains, including potential employment opportunities.
    2. Develop a monthly calendar with individuals’ choice of community outings and volunteer opportunities.
    3. Maintain a ratio of 1 staff and up to 4 participants while in the community.
    4. Provide individual instruction and skill development in the areas of personal care, making meaningful choices about daily activities while in the community.
    5. Develop and maintain on-going communication with Supervisor as needed regarding participants' services, interests, and progress.
    6. Promote positive relationships between the Mobile Adult Day Services and community agencies and resources that relate to the program.
    7. Intervene therapeutically during crisis situations as needed.
    8. Assist with personal care including transferring persons as needed.
    9. Assist in transportation, restroom, and lunch transitions, as needed.
    10. Provide direct training of persons served utilizing skills such as gentle teaching methods.
    11. Drive agency van to pick up and return program participants as well driving throughout the day in the community. Safely operate wheelchair lift on agency van.
    12. Assist new participants in adjusting to Goodwill/Easter Seals Adult Day Programs and Services, along with assessing their abilities and choice for services.
    13. May be required to provide and/or arrange transportation as needed, i.e., utilize own vehicle, local transit.
    14. Maintain and update required program documentation.
    15. Participate as a member of the ISP team as required and prepare/complete assigned paperwork timely.
    16. Attend staff meetings, in-services and other meetings as assigned.
    17. Always maintain a clean and safe environment and vehicle.

    18. Hours may need to be flexible based on the program requirements.
    19. Other duties as assigned.
    20. Comply with all Agency policies, procedures and safety standards throughout work areas and maintain same to meet CARF, Department of Labor and other regulatory standards.

    High School or General Education Degree (GED).

    One year experience in Human Services field preferred.

    1. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, general business instructions, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
    2. Ability to speak effectively with participants, caregivers and the general public.

    REASONING ABILITY:
    1. Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
    2. Ability to deal with daily operational challenges with a calm demeanor.
