Activity Specialist organizes and provides program content for social events for an organization or group of people. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent and 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Being an Activity Specialist is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Additionally, Activity Specialist performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision; typically reports to a supervisor or manager. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Activity Coordinator (AC) will coordinate with Alternative Therapy Supervisor (ATS) to schedule, plan, and execute events and program activities. AC must be able to work creatively and independently. AC shall assist ATS in planning and facilitating social events for residents. Will demonstrate healthy and appropriate therapeutic boundaries. Must be able to facilitate off campus activities. Must demonstrate advanced understanding of program structure. Maintain and organize monthly activity calendars. Create internal marketing materials for program structure, events, and program announcements. Shall research new outing locations with resident safety in mind. Must demonstrate strong clinical judgement. Verbal de-escalation skills required.
Provides individual coaching, conducts behavioral, social, and educational skills development group sessions. Observes behavior patterns to detect signs of emotional issues and implements behavior management techniques and appropriate intervention techniques. Builds a therapeutic rapport with the residents, avoids power struggles, and promotes an environment that is conducive to the resident being able to achieve maximum therapeutic benefit of the program. Document information into the electronic programs. Follow the daily program schedule. Be professional and follow the attendance policy. Keep keys in your possession at all time.
Acts as a team member with other professional staff members to provide updates for treatment plan reviews for residents, reports and documents resident?s incidents, and treatment issues, and communicates with team members the specific needs and issues of each resident and the observations or concerns from group and activity sessions.
This position reports directly to the ATS under the AT department.
Maintains strict confidentiality and privacy of residents' personally identifiable health information in accordance with HIPAA privacy rules and Facility policies. Meets mandatory staff development requirement per the standards of all regulatory and accrediting agencies.

Education:
High School Diploma
Experience:
Minimum of 6 months in a behavioral healthcare / activity therapy setting with the population served.
Licenses/Certificates:
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
First Aide
Approved behavioral intervention / management program
