Cary is seeking energetic and creative individuals at least 18 years of age who are enthusiastic about working with elementary-aged children to serve as Summer Day Camp Activity Specialists. Activity Specialists will have the responsibility of creating and facilitating age-appropriate activities and programs for campers in grades K-5, purchasing and monitoring inventory for their programs, and driving a Town of Cary vehicle as needed. Specialists may focus on activities such as archery, canoeing, orienteering, and nature studies, drama, dance, arts and crafts, music, science, martial arts, and more.
Camp Staff are required to participate in general training prior to camp.
Camp locations include Bond Park Community Center and Mills Park Elementary.
This is a seasonal (May-August), non-benefited position, up to 40 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours.

- Manages the group to ensure a safe and healthy camp for all participants during all activities (classroom, gym, outside, bus/transportation, off site field trips);
- Uses group management skills to engage all children in daily activities;
- Facilitates activities that give children a sense of accomplishment that comes from mastering techniques, skills, and completing projects;
- Orders activity supplies and manages inventory;
- Sets up, takes down, and works with others to sanitize/clean camp room and equipment daily;
- Carries out behavior management procedures and handles camper emergencies;
- Assists with camp opening and closing, including camper drop-off and pick-up;
- Performs other job-related tasks as required.
General knowledge of traditional camps; General knowledge of equipment and supplies required for camp operation; Good organizational and time management skills; Strong oral and written communication skills; Ability to acquire knowledge of Town of Cary policies, procedures, and services of the department; Ability to maintain and establish effective working relationships with general public and with other staff; Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; Ability to exercise judgment in controlling the activities, behavior, and safety of camp attendees.- Must be at least 18 years old
- Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED
- Requires some experience engaging with youth in a paid or volunteer capacity
- CPR and First-aid Certification preferred; training opportunities available
Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.
