Actuarial Services Director directs the activities of an organization's actuarial function. Oversees the analysis and evaluation of potential risks to determine the financial impacts of new or existing insurance plans. Being an Actuarial Services Director develops policies, procedures, and formulas to guide statistical analysis and actuarial research and evaluate the likelihood and financial impact of various risks. Designs processes and guidelines to ensure regulatory compliance of products and financial operations. Additionally, Actuarial Services Director leads the design and development of insurance products by evaluating and approving insurance rates, premium levels, and rating systems and structures. Oversees the preparation of actuarial reports, financial statements, and regulatory filings and develops financial budgets, forecasts, and other financial projections. Researches and selects major rating assumptions to support accurate statistical analysis and evaluates the effectiveness of existing formulas. Evaluates product performance against established profitability targets and recommends modifications. Applies knowledge of mathematics, probability, statistics, principles of finance and business to calculations in life, health, social, and casualty insurance, annuities, and pensions. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require Associate of Society of Actuaries (ASA). May require Fellow of Society of Actuaries (FSA). Typically reports to senior management. The Actuarial Services Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be an Actuarial Services Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     About the role: The Director of Housing and Services provides support and oversight in assigned region/area..  This is a Senior Management position that will assist Abode Services in accomplishing our mission to end homelessness.  As part of the Senior Management team, the person in this position must be a leader committed to excellence and growth, as Abode Services is a dynamic agency continually changing to meet the needs of those we serve. The position oversees housing programs at Abode Services, fosters new housing partnerships, and provides input and expertise to achieve the agency’s strategic goals.

    How You Make an Impact:

    • Program Oversight (40%): Provide oversight to all assigned Housing Programs and housing components of other programs of other within Abode Services including ensuring successful implementation, evaluation, and coordination of services. Ensure that programs are in compliance with funding regulations, program goals, and stakeholder expectations. Provide high level program development, goal setting, and engagement with external stakeholders specific to programs. 
    • Senior Management (10%): Collaborate regularly with agency management. Participate in regular Senior Management meetings to discuss issues relating to finances, human resources, and program operations. 
    • Program/Staff Supervision (25%): Provide coaching and direct supervision to all staff managing the above mentioned programs. Provide regular and appropriate feedback including training, opportunities for professional growth, verbal, and written improvement plans when needed, and regular evaluations. 
    • Evaluation and Quality Systems Management (10%): Work collaboratively with other managers and directors to ensure that culture of outcome driven performance is maintained by valuing data quality evaluation of programs. Assist in the creation of the annual report for the public which describes all service outcome for internal and external stakeholders.   
    • Agency Liaison to the Community (10%): Maintain effective public relations. Develop relationships with the community. Serve as a spokesperson for agency when called upon.
    • Coordination of Departments (5%): Ensure that programs are successfully integrating supportive services and housing components to stabilize and improve housing, income and health outcomes of participants. 
    • Other duties as assigned.  

    How You Meet the Qualifications:  

    • Bachelor's degree in social services, business, or related field or equivalent experience, required. 
    • 10 years of professional experience in the human services, social work, or related field.
    • 5 years experience in nonprofit management with a proven track record in successful implementation of housing programs for people who are homeless.
    • Use of personal vehicle and proof of valid California Driver's License and current auto insurance, along with a clean DMV record, required. 

    COMPETENCIES: 

    • Excellent verbal & written communication, organizational, and time management skills. 
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail. 
    • Ability to work well independently and collaboratively with teams. 
    • Understanding of the following evidence-based practices: Housing First, Motivational Interviewing, Harm Reduction, Psychosocial Rehabilitation, and Relapse Prevention Therapy. 
    • Strong skills completing assessments, treatment plans and expertise in clinical writing.  
    • Practiced in rigorous clinical work while meeting deadlines for billing, progress notes, and treatment plans.  
    • Experience in completing assessments and treatment plans.    
    • Experience in a high volume of clinical writing.  
    • Experienced in the practice of effectively intervening in crisis situations, with de-escalation techniques. 
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, systems, and platforms. 
    • Ability to learn and use required mobile devices and business-related applications. 
    • Understanding and practice of culturally sensitive components of direct service delivery through open dialogs and self-exploration with diverse groups.  
    • Outstanding communication skills and high degree of emotional intelligence, cultural humility, with a proven track record to build and maintain effective relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts. 

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

     

    • Communicating with others to exchange information; seeing to read a variety of materials.  
    • Manual dexterity for use of keyboard, tools, controls; repetitive motion that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. 
    • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods, while at a desk or working on a computer.  
    • Ability to drive and sit in a car for prolonged periods of time. 
    • Ability to move between floors, ascending and descending stairs.  
    • Light work that may include moving or lifting objects up to 25 pounds.   
    • Ability to squat, bend at the waist, crouch, reach overhead and horizontally, and kneel.   

     

    WORK CONDITIONS / ENVIRONMENT: 

     

    • Must be able to work in a shared office environment with moderate to high noise level with frequent contact and interruption.  
    • Multi-level buildings with stairs and/or ramps.  
    • Some travel by car throughout the county region and surrounding areas.
