Actuary utilizes statistical analysis and modeling to assess and manage risk and estimate financial outcomes. Compiles, prepares, and analyzes data to develop statistical models, probability tables, and actuarial studies and evaluate the likelihood and financial impact of various risks. Being an Actuary assists with product design and development by analyzing risk groups and calculating appropriate insurance rates, premium levels, and rating systems and structures. Records and tracks accruals, claims, and settlements and prepares documents for input into regulatory filings, financial budgets, forecasts, and other financial projections. Additionally, Actuary applies knowledge of mathematics, probability, statistics, principles of finance and business to calculations in life, health, social, and casualty insurance, annuities, and pensions. Requires a bachelor's degree. Must be currently pursuing the designation of ASA (Associate) in the Society of Actuaries. Typically reports to a manager. The Actuary work is closely managed.     The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $80,550 to $134,250.


    You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance

    Work you’ll do 

    As a Government Health Actuary - Consultant in Deloitte's Human Capital Actuarial and Insurance Solutions Practice, you will assist Deloitte Managers, Senior Managers, and Partners in providing strategic and technical consulting services to Federal and State governments, employer groups, and other public entities.

    Qualifications 

    Required:

    • 3 year of health actuary experience and consulting and/or health plan/insurance company experience
    • ASA with progression to FSA, FSA, or career ASA designation
    • Ability to travel 25%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve
    • Bachelor's Degree Required
    • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future
    • 1 year experience with Medicaid managed care rate setting


    Preferred: 

    • 1 year experience leading teams
    • 1 year  experience with Medicaid waivers (i.e., 1115, 1915 b/c, 1332)
    • 1 year experience with risk adjustment mechanisms
    • 1 year  experience with health care reform and working knowledge of the individual medical and small group markets
    • 1 year  experience with Medicare products, including Medicare Advantage or Medicare Supplement products for various enrollee types
    • 1 years experience with group insurance products including disability, long term care, etc.
    • 1 year  experience with product design and/or product strategy
    • 1 year  experience with reimbursement models – including value based care/ACO modeling
    • Ability to program using SQL
