To be an Admitting/Discharge Clerk typically requires 1-3 years of related experience or may have 0 years of experience plus an associates degree, or additional training, or certification.     • Duties shall be as assigned at the discretion of the Circuit Court Judge of Newaygo County Trial Court and shall be those typically expected of a lawyer, law clerk and/or professional employee of the Court.
    • Duties shall include, but are not limited to:
      • Legal research, memorandum and draft-opinion writing, pre-hearing file analysis, law librarian service and any such administrative responsibilities as are assigned to him/her by the Newaygo County Trial Court Judges.
    • The Law Clerk will always act in a manner consistent with the highest standards of ethical and professional behavior.
    • The Law Clerk will conduct himself/herself in a lawful and consistent way adhering to laws, rules, regulations and policies and/or procedures governing employment and workplace activity.
    • Whether at work or outside of work, shall conduct himself/herself so as to enhance, and not undermine, the reputation of the Newaygo County Trial Court, the County we served and the administration of justice.
    • The Law Clerk shall sign and abide by the Model Code of Conduct for Michigan Trial Court Employees and other policies, procedures and/or rules currently governing Newaygo County Trial Court employees or as may be promulgated from time to time.
    • Required to be a law school graduate.
    • Taken or passed the Michigan State Bar examination at the start of employment.
      • Any Michigan State Bar dues required to be paid by him/her to maintain State Bar Membership shall be reimbursed to the Law Clerk on a prorated basis for the actual period working as Law Clerk pursuant to this agreement.
    • Subject to the hiring process of the Newaygo County Trial Courts and shall fully participate with any background checks necessary to properly assess the Law Clerk’s appropriateness for the position.
    • Must submit cover letter, resume, writing sample, and three (3) professional references.

    • Typical contract runs October 1 - September 30.

    • Benefits include Vacation and Holiday Pay.
