Admitting Manager manages the day-to-day patient admissions and access operations, staff, policies, and practices. Maintains standardized admission processes to ensure accurate data collection, a positive patient experience, and effective coordination between clinical and administrative teams. Being an Admitting Manager monitors operational metrics to improve processes, increase efficiency, or correct problems. Establishes policies and standards to preserve patient confidentiality, ensure data security and comply with all applicable regulations. Additionally, Admitting Manager typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Admitting Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions.     Provides financial counseling to inpatients and their guarantors, as well as selected outpatient groups, and secures appropriate socioeconomic data relative to each account. This process includes establishing and/or confirming a medical record identification number, patient registration, detailed financial screening and analysis, verifying insurance or other third-party coverage, obtaining precertification on behalf of multiple billing entities, collecting of deposits and co-pays, securing revolving credit applications, sponsorship referral, obtaining necessary signatures and support documentation from patients and guarantors, coordinating financial issues with internal and external departments, and resolving or referring non-financial concerns of the patients to the appropriate department or agency.

    Job Opening Qualifications

    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

    • High school graduate or equivalent is required. College degree or related course work desired.
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a business office, experience with a health care provider, health care-related business or in a related industry (e.g., insurance) with emphasis on third-party payor requirements is required.
      • Combinations of Shands-specific work experience related to patient demographics, Admissions, Financial Arrangements, billing and collections, patient records processing or the like, and with direct public contact, may be substituted for experience.
    • A working knowledge of medical and insurance industry terminology is required.
    • Must have experience that demonstrates ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, recognize and react to changing priorities, make timely and accurate judgment decisions, effectively communicate with other health care professionals and work independent of direct supervision.
    • Proficiency in applications, as well as demonstrated ability to work with multiple computer systems, is required.
    • Must demonstrate exceptional verbal, analytical and written communication skills.
    • Must be adaptable, tactful and able to work well under pressure.
    • Must demonstrate and understanding of "first impression" position and the need for appropriate dress, attitude and concern associated with the position.
    • A working knowledge of medical and insurance industry terminology is required.
