The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) assists the Director of Nursing (DON) with the planning, directing and coordination of nursing services. Works to maintain the objectives and policies of the Nursing Department. Under the supervision of the DON, the ADON is responsible and accountable for the duties associated with the management of nursing care and nursing department staff members.
Essential Job Duties:

Follows and assists in further development of established philosophy and objectives of the Nursing Department.

In the absence of the DON, assumes responsibility for Nursing Department.

In the absence of the DON and Administrator, may assume responsibility for facility management.

Assists DON in the management, administration and supervision of all personnel and all operations of the Nursing Department.

Assists with the development and coordination of nursing staff scheduling and assignments. Assures staffing numbers are adequate for the provision of nursing care.

Serves as Assigned Supervisor for various Nursing Department personnel. Participates in team hiring interviews, conducts employee performance reviews, disciplinary conferences and exit interviews in a timely fashion.

Responsible for performance, retention and development of all assigned employees.
- Seeks direction from the Human Resource Director and Department Director regarding personnel matters. Takes appropriate action in accordance with personnel policies and procedures. Assists DON with personnel issues as requested.

Manages “special projects” as directed.

Is knowledgeable and responds appropriately to nursing/facility emergencies according to established policies and procedures.
Qualifications:

Licensed currently as a Registered Professional Nurse in Pennsylvania in good standing. Maintenance of licensure requirements.

Additional education or experience in nursing service administration. Prefer B.S.N. Degree, but not required.
