From construction workers, day laborers, restaurant workers, and cleaning and hospitality workers, NICE organizes the future workforce - whether they have been New Yorkers for 20 years or are just arriving at NICE.In recent months, NICE has developed a unique life and workforce development program for immigrant workers: NICE’s Apprenticeship Program for Life & Work (APLW). This program weaves together the foundational elements for integration by building their personal and professional skills to thrive while contributing to NYC.
    POSITION SUMMARY
    NICE seeks a highly motivated, full-time ESOL Adult Education Teacher to join our newly formed NICE Workforce Development Division. This position is an exciting opportunity for a diligent individual passionate about engaging and empowering adult learners to develop their language skills. The ESOL Adult Education Teacher will create curriculum and program development. This position will collaborate across NICE Divisions in the implementation of its program, the Apprenticeship Program for Life & Work. This position will require making efective use of student support resources, participate in ongoing professional development, and work closely with the Workforce Development Division Director.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Teach English to adult non-native speakers within the blended learning model and focus on career readiness.
    • Develop classes that address all aspects of communication through appropriate instruction that develops each student’s ability to read, write, speak, and listen in the appropriate content area.
    • Plan, organize, and provide instruction in English that meet state and federal standards.
    • Provide an inclusive and supportive learning environment that encourages student responsibility, empowerment and incorporates challenging instructional strategies.
    • Develop and administer language assessments for the purpose of evaluating student progress for meeting federal and state learning targets and progress in language acquisition.
    • Administer, evaluate, and analyze student learning outcomes and in self-reflection and responding to an evidence-based assessment of student learning.
    • Monitor attendance records of each participant and progress; produce progress reports as needed, submit quarterly course overviews, and ensure data is entered in a timely manner.
    • Evaluate and conference participants on their progress, absenteeism, etc.
    • Complete, maintain and submit accurate records and all required data of student progress and evidence of growth and progress in a timely manner.
    • Perform general administrative and clerical functions, including maintaining accurate records, compiling information and data, and participant in reporting.
    Curriculum Development
    • Develop curriculum and lesson plans that incorporate blended learning and utilize a broad range of innovative teaching techniques and strategies that focus on career readiness.
    • Develop and use instructional materials suitable for instruction of students with a wide range of ethnic, cultural, educational, and economic backgrounds.
    • Post weekly learning materials via Google Classroom or similar platforms and collaborate with team members (associates and coordinators from other Divisions)
    • Work together with Workforce Development Division Director and staff to develop and align ESL curriculum that enables student progress from ESL Literacy through ESL Advanced High students.
    • Adapt curriculum to provide individual, small group, and/or remedial instruction as to meet the needs of individual students and subgroups of students.
    QUALIFICATIONS
    • BA/BS and certificate in TESOL or BA English with a TESL certificate, linguistics with a TESL certificate, applied linguistics with a TESL certificate, or any foreign language with a TESL certificate required.
    • Ability to create and promote a dynamic learning environment that values instructor/student interaction, diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom.
    • Demonstrate knowledge and teaching experience with adult immigrant students, focusing on course planning, instruction, assessment, and evaluation.
    • Demonstrate experience and commitment to integrating new technologies into the learning process, including but not limited to interactive technologies.
    • Ability to adapt teaching pedagogy to the knowledge of each individual and class.
    • Ability to self-reflect and respond to an evidence-based assessment of student learning.
    • Works closely with the WFD Division Director, coordinators, and other staff to serve participants and comply with program requirements.
    • Stays current in the field of Adult Education and actively continues professional growth, including obtaining necessary credentials to perform required duties.
    • Adapts as needed to ever-changing state and federal requirements.
    • Remains sensitive to socio-economic and cultural factors that influence student recruitment, retention, and successful progress and completion of the program.
    • Solid understanding of the stages of second language acquisition.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to build rapport and manage relationships at all levels.
    • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
    • Bilingual preferred. Fluency in English and Spanish.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint & Word), Zoom and Microsoft Teams required.
    • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
    • Excellent time and project management skills.
    • Knowledge of current issues and educational trends in teaching ESL in a community college setting.
    COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
    Schedule: Monday-Friday 9AM to 5 PM, must be able to work a varied schedule, including potential evenings and weekends.
    Type:
    • Hourly, non-exempt
    • Hourly rate $27.54 to $31.62
    • Requires physical presence on the job site (categorized as an essential employee)
