    Employees starting at the entry step of this range receive salary step advancement after six months and every 12 months thereafter. If an employee starting at anything higher than the entry step of the range, will have salary step advancement after 12 months and salary step advancement every 12 months thereafter until they reach the top of the salary range. Each salary step advancement will be approximately a 5% increase in salary.

    The Community Colleges of Spokane is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of ABE Program Assistant in the SCC Adult Education Department. 

    JOB SUMMARY

    Under general supervision, the Program Assistant provides support to Adult Basic Education (ABE) division programs and performs a variety of complex clerical projects and assignments in support of the ABE division. This position serves as the primary contact with program faculty and support staff regarding program activities for ABE programs (e.g., Skilled Trades Preparation, Integrated Basic Education Skills and Training (IBEST), etc.).

    CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Respond to inquiries from the public and staff regarding departmental procedures as well as programs and services such as IBEST and other ABE innovative programs. Aspects of support include: marketing, recruitment, orientation and coordinating enrollments. Maintain inventory of textbooks, certificates and materials for specialized programs, coordinate purchase of textbooks, and coordinate program activities with instructors. Obtain and secure classroom materials and equipment in advance of class. *
    • Provide support as needed to build classes and generate contracts for ABE programs ensuring accuracy of information. *
    • Arrange state-related business travel for ABE division’s employees for conferences, conventions, trainings, and meetings. Keep updated travel spreadsheet. Prioritize, prepare and track travel authorizations in advance of travel, coordinate reservations and arrange all other aspects of travel needs. Complete expense reports at conclusion of travel. *
    • Maintain inventory and order division supplies. Maintain purchasing logs and reconcile faculty and staff purchase cards each month. *
    • Manage procedures for the ABE multi-function network printers including preparing maintenance agreements, copy counts and monthly billing as well as researching viable options for new/replacement equipment for multiple sites throughout the division. Maintain security codes for faculty and staff. Troubleshoot minor issues and call for service when deemed necessary. *
    • Serve as records coordinator, answering questions and maintaining the division’s records management documentation. *
    • Model professional decorum and mutual respect in all personal interactions. *
    • Comply with district policies, procedures and directives, state and federal regulations, orders and statutes and collective bargaining agreements. *
    • Support and advance the CCS strategic plan, and perform other duties as assigned. *

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Two years of increasingly responsible office experience.
    • Knowledge of CCS and ABE policies and procedures.
    • Knowledge regarding purchasing and budgeting.
    • Experience with a student management system (e.g., PeopleSoft).

    TOTAL COMPENSATION WITH BENEFITS $53,521 - $67,436. 
     
    Total compensation is an estimate based upon adding the following amounts together:

    • Base compensation of $37,740 - $50,088, plus 
    • Current employer-paid health and related benefit contribution rates, plus

    • Median retirement fund contributions. 
    The actual total will vary depending upon each employee's enrollment choices.

    Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an absolute condition of employment. An offer of employment will not carry with it any responsibility or obligation on the part of the district to sponsor an H1-B visa.     • Work is performed in an office environment with frequent interruptions and background noise.
