F/T Surgical Technologist Lead Instructor

Mt. Diablo Adult Education’s Career Technical Education Center (CTEC) is seeking a Full-Time Lead Instructor for the Surgical Technologist Program at our Concord campus. No holidays or weekends required! Salary range starts at $33.62/hour. Position open until filled.

The Surgical Technologist Lead Instructor will provide the leadership and drive required to support and enhance the mission of the Surgical Technologist Program. The Lead Instructor is directly responsible for all aspects of the program, including the organization, administration, continuous review, planning, development and general effectiveness of the program.

Schedule:

• Full-time, average of thirty (30) hours per week and minimum of 1,050 hours per school year
• Monday - Friday 8:30am - 3:00pm (½ hour unpaid lunch)

Responsibilities

Administrative Responsibilities:

• Must ensure program compliance with all standards and guidelines set forth by accrediting bodies and regulatory agencies, maintain student records, maintain and update program documentation and curriculum as required, work with the Career Technical Education coordinator to ensure growth and development of skills instructors.

Instructional Responsibilities:

• Lead staff toward instructional improvement and mentor as needed to improve instruction, pursue professional development opportunities in education and surgical technology regularly, substitute for program staff (Surgical Skills, Basic Sciences or Lab Assistants) when needed.

Clinical Externship Coordinator Responsibilities:

• Communicate regularly with clinical externship sites, maintain current clinical externship sites, affiliation agreements, and required documentation, and develop new sites as required, coordinate and ensure timely placement of students at clinical externship sites, conduct orientations, and provide students with necessary documentation and information for sites, monitor, evaluate, and report student progress and attendance (regularly online/electronically), conduct regular site visits in Term II and III (March to August) between Mondays and Thursdays.

Minimum Qualifications:

• A current CST or CSTFA credential. (See www.nbstsa.org-CAAHEP requirement)
• An Associate’s Degree in Surgical Technology or Bachelor’s or higher. (CAAHEP requirement)
• A minimum total of five (5) years work experience as a surgical technologist or surgical technologist instructor, or a combination of both, within the past ten years. (CAAHEP requirement)
• Experience as an educator (instructor, staff developer, trainer, preceptor, etc.) and proficiency in instructional methodology, curriculum design, and program planning. (CAAHEP requirement)

Must hold or be willing to meet the qualifications to obtain California Designated Subjects Teaching Credential for Adult Education. (See www.ctc.ca.gov/credentials/CREDS/adult-voc-ed.html)
