Aerial Tram Tender operates and maintains aerial tram equipment. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Being an Aerial Tram Tender may have to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty with 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Additionally, Aerial Tram Tender relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Seasonal position with varied hours on an as-needed basis, Sunday through Friday from May to October. Semi-skilled manual work in operating machinery to open and close a municipal bridge to permit the passage of boats.
Works under the direct supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Public Works and in compliance with rules and regulations relating to navigation. Routine but responsible work which requires independent judgement in the careful operation of a bridge pursuant to prescribed procedures in order to avoid breakdowns or malfunctions.
Oversees the operation of the warning gates and traffic signals. Enforces prohibition against fishing from movable portions of the bridge. Maintains the bridge facility; reports any malfunctions or other mechanical problems to the appropriate authority; cleans, washes, sweeps and maintains the cleanliness of the bridge on a regular basis.
High school diploma or equivalent; some experience in bridge tending and operating mechanical equipment; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Working knowledge of the machinery used to open and close bridges. Strong knowledge of the rules of "seamanship". Thorough understanding of the Coast Guard Rules and Regulations.
