    Summary Description

    Under the supervision of a Superintendent, Sr. Aerial Fiber Specialist, Lineperson 2nd Class or 1st Class Line Foreperson and/or 1st Class Lineman, performs various tasks related to the layout and installation of various fiber, commercial and industrial electrical systems.


    Duties and Responsibilities

    Essential Functions:


    • Complies with and ensures compliance with all Tri-M safety policies and procedures.
    • Complies with and ensures compliance with all Tri-M employment policies and procedures including standards of conduct and appearance to reflect positively on the Company.
    • Reads and interprets construction drawings (i.e., fiber, electrical, mechanical, architectural, etc.).
    • Performs layout of assigned tasks.
    • Ability to lead the fiber project team, as needed.
    • Installs various outdoor lighting systems.
    • Installs underground duct bank systems with supervision.
    • Installs outdoor transformers and makes standard connections with supervision.
    • Installs medium voltage cable and terminates with supervision.
    • Learns to operate line trucks and bucket trucks.
    • Learns to sets up and operates power pulling equipment.
    • Terminates cable from 5kv and above with cold shrink termination kits with supervision.
    • Assists in the installation of dry transformers and capacitors.
    • Sets various types of indoor and outdoor switchgear with supervision.
    • Safeguards and maintains Tri‑M equipment, tools and vehicles.
    • Assures compliance with National Electrical Code and High Voltage Electrical Safety.
    • Keeps abreast of new developments and techniques in the electrical construction trade and industry.
    • Conducts appropriate on‑the‑job training of apprentices.
    • Recommends improved methods of operation.
    • Assures that good housekeeping practices are maintained at the job site.


      Job Qualifications 

      Skills/Educational Requirements:


      • High school diploma.
      • Completion of a state‑approved apprenticeship program or equivalent.
      • Minimum of four years’ experience in the fiber and electrical trade.
      • Ability to read and understand bas one-line diagrams (fiber, power, special systems riser, etc.)
      • Good working knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC) and the National Electric Safety Code (NESC), and the high voltage electrical safety book.
      • Good character, neat appearance.
      • Good mechanical aptitude and understanding of outdoor electrical system. 
      • Ability to climb height of 70 ‘on poles or scaffolds.
      • Maintain a valid commercial driver’s license-Class A (CDL) or in the process of obtaining and a history of safe driving.
      • Must have reliable personal transportation to and from the assigned work location/office.
      • Must purchase Company required personal tools and maintain in good condition.
      • Ability and willingness to travel nationally to jobsites.
      • Confident, decisive, safety orientated and self-motivated.
      • Proficient with use of laptop and tablet.
      • Good knowledge of bus duct (usage and installation).
      • Working knowledge of outdoor lighting installations (proper excavating and backfill, forming, underground conduit, correct connections and conductors).
      • Understands the use and installation of portable and fixed generators.


       Physical Requirements:


      • Working 40 hours/week, scheduled in 8 to 10 hour shifts
      • Standing and climbing 4 to 6 hours/day
      • Kneeling; lifting; reaching above shoulders; and bending (90° ) 4 to 5 hours/day
      • Twisting (180° ) and walking 2 to 3 hours/day
      • Squatting and sitting 1 to 2 hours/day
      • Lifting weights of 0 to 100 lbs. at the following frequencies:  continuous lifting of 10 to 35 lbs.; frequent lifting of 35 to 50 lbs.; occasional lifting of 50 to 100 lbs; sizes and shapes of objects vary from concrete blocks to cylinders to 20' lengths of conduit; average carry requirements, 60 lbs. for 40'
      • Ability to lift from floor to above shoulder
      • Repetitive use of hands includes:  continuous grasping up to 50 lbs.; frequent pushing and pulling of 50 to 75 lbs.; and fine motor coordination for receptacle installation and wire terminations
      • Repetitive use of feet is required for operating heavy equipment, conduit benders and vertical climbing
      • Vision adequate for blueprint reading and color coding for wire identification
      • Balance adequate for continuous climbing of ladders, scaffolds, lifts, wooden poles, and metal light poles.
      • Environmental factors include working in:  temperature extremes of 0° to 100° F; up to 8 hours inside or outside; atmospheric exposure to dust, gases, fumes, odors; and poor ventilation in confined spaces
      • Special hazards include exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical and explosive hazards
      • Personal protective equipment includes use of hard hat, safety glasses, protected-toe boots, and appropriate gloves for the task.  Equipment on an "as needed" basis may include fall protection, dust mask, respirator, hearing protection, arc flash protective gear, and dielectrically insulated gloves and/or sleeves, etc.
