Aerospace Engineer researches and develops structural engineering specifications for aerospace products, parts, or associated operations to improve the efficiency and reliability of aerospace systems. Analyzes results of stress tests on various craft and missile parts to determine material durability and tolerances. Being an Aerospace Engineer oversees flight tests of prototypes and analyzes resulting data to validate flight characteristics and identify necessary improvements. Conducts calculations and utilizes simulations to evaluate aerodynamics, structural integrity, propulsion efficiency, and the effect on fuel consumption of new or existing materials. Additionally, Aerospace Engineer utilizes CAE, 3-D, and digital modeling to create detailed plans and specifications to support production. Assists quality assurance and purchasing teams with the evaluation of new or existing suppliers, products and materials, or technologies. Understands and complies with all federal regulatory requirements and specifications. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Aerospace Engineer work is closely managed.     Eaton's IS AER FED division is currently seeking a Senior Quality Engineer. This is an onsite role based at our Jackson, MI location.

    The expected annual salary range for this role is $80250.03 - $117700.04 a year. This position is also eligible for a variable incentive program.

    What you'll do:

    Functionally responsible for designing, developing, coordinating, and deploying work instructions/procedures and associated process controls for the assigned HPWT. Develop robust root cause and corrective actions for non-conformities leading to customer escapes, internal rework, and scrap. Develops process improvements and cost control programs in their HPWT. Reviews customer/industry/internal specifications to ensure compliance with stated requirements. Provides technical support to operations, customers, and suppliers. Provides training/mentoring in quality toolbox.

    Essential Responsibilities:
    Acts as a primary organizational contact for customer concerns and ensure appropriate corrective actions are deployed as necessary using 8D, 5-Why, and lean tools while driving a Zero-defect mindset.
    Achieves goals associated with the quality engineering team that are aligned with the Quality Department and Jackson Plant.
    Prioritizes quality engineering activities to assure top priorities are focused on key objectives of quality, cost, and delivery.
    Reviews customer/industry/internal specifications to ensure compliance with stated requirements. Provides technical support to operations, customers, and suppliers as required.
    Assures that product shipped meets internal and external customer requirements.
    Communicates quality issues to front line leaders, factory personnel, and customers. Assist them in root cause and permanent corrective action.
    Directs the disposition and analysis of returned material and internal non-conforming product. Ensure that actions around top pareto items are identified and completed.
    Supports organizational readiness for customer and other Third-party assessments related to the product or process. Host Customer and Third-Party Inspectors/Auditors as required.
    Supports the deployment and maintenance of Eaton Business System tools, where appropriate or required, to improve Quality Management System effectiveness (i.e., QLI/QBP, EZDP, EQMS, ELSS, WISPER, MESH, GEMBA, Leaders Standard Work, STOP Cards, etc.).
    Develops and deploy pFMEAs and Control Plans per AIAG standard.
    Formulates and implement quality assurance procedures, policies, and standards. Ensure these documents align with the recognized Aerospace Quality System Standard as well as Eaton Objectives, Policies and Procedures.
    Manages assigned customer portals and customer scorecards to ensure actions are being completed and customer requirements are being met.
    Leads and/or provide technical advice and counsel to cross-functional teams assigned to continuous improvement, problem solving, and product development.
    Provides technical guidance to less experienced Quality Engineers especially on quality toolbox and continuous improvement concepts.
    Supports product transition needs as required.
    Completes assignments with minimal oversight.
    Completes other duties as assigned

    Qualifications:

    Required:
    • Bachelor's degree from accredited institution.
    • Minimum 2 years' experience in a manufacturing environment.
    • This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e., '), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
    • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates that currently reside within the immediate geographical area of 50 of Jackson, MI will be considered.
    • Legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future.

    Preferred:
    • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
    • The ideal candidate would have 2-5 years of experience in a quality engineering role.
    • Microsoft Office application (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, etc.) experience.
    • Read and understand Blue Prints, Specifications, and Requirements.
    • Knowledge of quality assurance systems (e.g. AS9100, ISO 9001, TS16949, IATF 16949).
    • Knowledge of assembly operations and inspection measuring & test equipment.
    • Expertise in problem solving tools and techniques (8D, A3, 3-Legged 5 Why, and Ishikawa Cause and Effect).
    • Experienced in use of continuous improvement lean manufacturing principles and scrap reduction tools (5S , Value Stream Mapping, PDCA, Standard Work, and Poka-Yoke).
    • Experienced in use of AIAG quality tools to reduce variability and mitigate risk (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plan, MSA, and SPC).
    • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (MOQ/OE) is preferred.
    • Six Sigma Greenbelt or Blackbelt Certification.
