Aerospace Engineer researches and develops structural engineering specifications for aerospace products, parts, or associated operations to improve the efficiency and reliability of aerospace systems. Analyzes results of stress tests on various craft and missile parts to determine material durability and tolerances. Being an Aerospace Engineer oversees flight tests of prototypes and analyzes resulting data to validate flight characteristics and identify necessary improvements. Conducts calculations and utilizes simulations to evaluate aerodynamics, structural integrity, propulsion efficiency, and the effect on fuel consumption of new or existing materials. Additionally, Aerospace Engineer utilizes CAE, 3-D, and digital modeling to create detailed plans and specifications to support production. Assists quality assurance and purchasing teams with the evaluation of new or existing suppliers, products and materials, or technologies. Understands and complies with all federal regulatory requirements and specifications. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Aerospace Engineer work is closely managed. Management retains the discretion to add to or change the duties of the position at any time. *Summary:Prepares working plans, detailed drawings and complete mechanical or electrical drawings of components and assemblies from notes, verbal instructions, and rough or details sketches for engineering or manufacturing purposes.JOB FUNCTIONS:- Makes final sketch of proposed drawings, parts lists, checking dimension of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another and relation of various parts to whole structure or project.
- Utilizes knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials and other physical sciences to complete drawings.
- Makes any adjustments or changes necessary or desired. Modifies existing documentation per Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
- Draws charts for presentations of statistical data. Draws finished designs from sketches. Selects suitable materials and finishes.
- Uses computer-assisted draftings (CAD) equipment and software.
- Makes engineering computations, writes specifications and makes adjustments in drawings of specification. Prepares design releases for manufacturing.
- Verifies completed work, checking dimensions, materials to be used, and quantities.
- Assists engineers in development of complex drawings involving some individual creativeness, application of advanced drafting techniques and knowledge of practical, mechanical and fabrication problems.
- Prepares product cost estimates.
As necessary, performs other related duties of which the above are representative.*Management must contact the Human Resources department if adding to or changing a significant number of duties.JOB REQUIREMENTS:Specifications of Education and Training, Job-Related Experience, and knowledge/abilities are general guidelines based on the minimum experience normally considered essential to the satisfactory performance of this job by the average incumbent. Individual abilities may result in some deviation from these guidelines.MINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING:College level education highly desirable with specialized instruction in drafting principles/techniques. Degree in Mechanical Engineering and plus.MINIMUM DIRECTLY RELATED JOB EXPERIENCE:Four years of related experience in technical, and manufacturing environments.MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:- Knowledge of electro-mechanical drafting work.
