Aerospace Engineer researches and develops structural engineering specifications for aerospace products, parts, or associated operations to improve the efficiency and reliability of aerospace systems. Analyzes results of stress tests on various craft and missile parts to determine material durability and tolerances. Being an Aerospace Engineer oversees flight tests of prototypes and analyzes resulting data to validate flight characteristics and identify necessary improvements. Conducts calculations and utilizes simulations to evaluate aerodynamics, structural integrity, propulsion efficiency, and the effect on fuel consumption of new or existing materials. Additionally, Aerospace Engineer utilizes CAE, 3-D, and digital modeling to create detailed plans and specifications to support production. Assists quality assurance and purchasing teams with the evaluation of new or existing suppliers, products and materials, or technologies. Understands and complies with all federal regulatory requirements and specifications. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Aerospace Engineer work is closely managed.     The Integrated Strategic Solutions Engineering (ISSE) team at Collins Aerospace is looking for an exceptionally motivated Principal Systems Engineer that is passionate about systems engineering with the ability to drive an innovative Radio Frequency (RF) communications solution in a highly technical environment.

    As a Principal Systems Engineer, you will develop and validate system models and designs for Nuclear Command, Control, and Communications (NC3) mission systems solutions used on our military customers' aircraft and ground stations.

    Your focus will be on customer needs through the entire program lifecycle to design, develop, integrate, and test both hardware and software solutions, ranging from black box to the complex end-to-end platform systems.

    This position will also be responsible for providing technical guidance to multidisciplined teams, leading effective working sessions, cultivating and reinforcing group values, and identifying, analyzing and correcting technical problems.

    Projects span the entire development lifecycle, including pursuit and order capture, trade study, system design, requirements definition, requirements allocation, requirement traceability, use case development for software/hardware, systems integration, verification testing and qualification.

    This position is located in Richardson, TX.

    Primary Responsibilities:
    • Serve as an RF communications technology and systems engineering focal point for leadership and the customer for ISSE mission equipment packages/solutions
    • Apply SysML concepts for System Modeling across a full engineering lifecycle.
    • Lead engineers to understand, analyze, and develop the models, requirements, and designs using enterprise standard tools, processes, and industry best practices.
    • Contribute to technical proposal preparation and serve as a subject matter expert in non-advocate, internal and customer reviews
    • Lead system integration and troubleshooting for complex embedded software applications, hardware, LRU's, and system of systems environments.
    • Ensure the development and management of technical risks and develop and execute mitigation plans
    • Lead and advise engineering managers, program managers, business development managers, product line managers, and component architects
    • Establish trusted and influential relationships with customers and suppliers
    • Monitor cost and schedule and report project status to program management and engineering leadership.


    Basic Qualifications:
    • Experience with secure RF communications systems.
    • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.
    • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
    • Ability to travel domestically (up to 10% of time).


    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience with secure communications systems spanning the frequency spectrum
    • Experience with System and product design, Requirements management, Technical risk management, interface definition and control, integration and test, and aircraft level system integration
    • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering concepts and tools such as Magic Draw CAMEO, Rhapsody, Enterprise Architect
    • Understanding of cosite analysis
    • Experience with open system architecture development, and systems, software, and hardware engineering
    • Experience in technical proposal writing - Make/Buy Decision-making and trade study experience
    • Ability to travel domestically (up to 20% of time)

    The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
