Aerospace Engineer researches and develops structural engineering specifications for aerospace products, parts, or associated operations to improve the efficiency and reliability of aerospace systems. Analyzes results of stress tests on various craft and missile parts to determine material durability and tolerances. Being an Aerospace Engineer oversees flight tests of prototypes and analyzes resulting data to validate flight characteristics and identify necessary improvements. Conducts calculations and utilizes simulations to evaluate aerodynamics, structural integrity, propulsion efficiency, and the effect on fuel consumption of new or existing materials. Additionally, Aerospace Engineer utilizes CAE, 3-D, and digital modeling to create detailed plans and specifications to support production. Assists quality assurance and purchasing teams with the evaluation of new or existing suppliers, products and materials, or technologies. Understands and complies with all federal regulatory requirements and specifications. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Aerospace Engineer work is closely managed.     The Collins Aerospace Avionics Test Engineering organization is looking for a motivated individual to be a Principal Project Engineer leading multidisciplinary teams of engineers (including systems, mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines) developing complex engineering solutions. The Avionics Test Engineering organization is a global engineering organization responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of the manufacturing test solutions in support of the $5B Avionics strategic business unit as well as external customers including armed services and airlines both domestic and international. As a key member of the Avionics Test Engineering leadership team, the Senior Project Engineering ensures the successful execution of test solution projects from inception, through deployment to customers, as well as long-term support. Typical test solutions include Optical, In-circuit Test, Boundary Scan, as well as COTS components such as switch systems, oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies and other related equipment coupled with custom software for performing Environmental Stress Screening as well as testing circuit card assemblies and top-level products.

    This is a multi-faceted role requiring versatility across a variety of tasks in a highly collaborative environment. The role requires working closely with engineers and leaders, at various locations around the globe, to ensure project success. Organizationally, the role reports to an Engineering Manager in the Avionics Test Engineering organization.

    This role can be either a hybrid or onsite position. However, the expectation is that there will be periods of time during a project development life cycle when onsite presence is required more frequently.

    May be eligible for relocation.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Lead project technical execution and maintain performance metrics for decision making and continuous improvement purposes
    • Manage project scope (requirements and change requests) ensuring it meets agreed to commitments
    • Generate and maintain project schedules with understood dependencies, deliveries, and critical path Utilize Earned Value (EV) methods for managing project budget (and schedule)
    • Ensure project meets quality expectations
    • Identify risks and opportunities and resolve them through proactive ownership
    • Prepare well-crafted presentations reporting project status to leadership teams
    • Develop Engineering estimates and proposals for potential projects and gaining organizational buy-in

    Qualifications/Experience Needed:

    • Strong leadership traits and practices
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills to effectively execute multiple active projects
    • Comfortable managing projects with scope comprised of numerous intricate requirements
    • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience

    • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.

    • Sound technical knowledge in at least one of the following engineering disciplines: systems, mechanical, electrical, or software
    • Ability to establish and maintaining effective customer relationships

    The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
