Aerospace Engineer researches and develops structural engineering specifications for aerospace products, parts, or associated operations to improve the efficiency and reliability of aerospace systems. Analyzes results of stress tests on various craft and missile parts to determine material durability and tolerances. Being an Aerospace Engineer oversees flight tests of prototypes and analyzes resulting data to validate flight characteristics and identify necessary improvements. Conducts calculations and utilizes simulations to evaluate aerodynamics, structural integrity, propulsion efficiency, and the effect on fuel consumption of new or existing materials. Additionally, Aerospace Engineer utilizes CAE, 3-D, and digital modeling to create detailed plans and specifications to support production. Assists quality assurance and purchasing teams with the evaluation of new or existing suppliers, products and materials, or technologies. Understands and complies with all federal regulatory requirements and specifications. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Aerospace Engineer work is closely managed. Principal Timing Engineer

  • The Principal Timing Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the timing aspects of PNT systems, ensuring precise synchronization and optimal performance. This position is crucial in designing, analyzing, sourcing and verifying timing constraints to meet stringent requirements in various applications such as timing software, systems and solutions, autonomy, precision clocks, microprocessor and integrated circuits-based timing solutions, LEO/MEO satellite source timing and other enhancements over the current and future assured PNT products.


    Essential Functions:

    • Utilizes broad-based technical knowledge, experience and demonstrated practical industry depth with hands-on expertise in PNT to understand and evaluate systems engineering activities across the engineering functions.
    • Drives planning, development, implementation and maintenance of software, system and technologies of timing in the Assured PNT products.
    • Develop timing architectures for advanced and future clocks.
    • Lead the timing analysis and design efforts throughout the development lifecycle.
    • Perform comprehensive mobile/dynamic timing analysis using industry-standard tools to validate timing constraints, identify critical paths, and analyze worst-case timing scenarios.
    • Perform comparison and trade-off studies on existing oscillators with stress on low phase/noise and high holdover accuracy.
    • Analysis, description and implementation of new timescales and frequency algorithms.
    • Define timing constraints, clock domains, and clock distribution strategies to achieve high performance.
    • Develop algorithms and methods advance the state of the art in clock data analysis and their applications, such as use of Kalman Filter and AI/ML
    • Sensor fusion for GNSS-challenged navigation, including interference, jamming and spoofing.
    • Robust redundant time source for anti-spoofing and spoof/jamming detection
    • Discover & implement new technologies that yield a competitive advantage for optimization of time and frequency scales for specific applications.
    • Assess which new technologies are appropriate for AEVEX's use, ensuring technologies and platforms securely scale to support strategic growth objectives of the organization based on current and target performance goals and objectives.
    • Supervise system infrastructure to ensure functionality and efficiency.
    • Ability to lead and collaborate in the development effort while also providing innovative and creative solutions.
    • Works closely with the customers and partners to understand the state of the possible and set requirements based on the Voice of the Customer (VOC).
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • Knowledge of the principles and development support for a wide range of oscillators, including atomic clocks, quartz clocks (TCXO), rubidium, micro-rubidium, low SWaP atomic frequency sources, OCXO, MEMS, etc.
    • Knowledge of precision and holdover timing algorithms, hardware and solutions.
    • Knowledge of Navigation Systems Architectures and techniques in GNSS, Kalman Filter, design, algorithms or performance analysis.
    • Familiar with standard and enhanced data analysis techniques, such as FT, wavelet transform, frequency distribution, time-frequency reassignment.
    • Knowledge of advanced oscillator disciplining procedures and techniques using multi-GNSS signals and clock steering.
    • Software development proficiency at the level of developing algorithms that can steer, controlloops, manage inputs and other inputs and outputs in timing solutions.
    • Knowledge of the principals of maintaining frequency-time scale for prolonged GNSS outages.
    • Knowledge of the principals for distribute time to different clients for time-stamping capability.
    • Hands-on tool experience for checking frequency, stability testing, and characterize clock performance for mobile and dynamic platforms.
    • Managing lab environments, hardware test setup and testing for timescales.
    • Strong scripting skills.
    • Knowledge of NTP server and PTP grandmaster expertise; DCLS configurable digital outputs.
    • Knowledge of techniques for synchronization of multiple clocks (time-transfer) and dissemination.
    • Knowledge of Time-transfer between the primary and multiple secondary units.
    • Knowledge of the principals of TOA/TDOA for RF-based localization.
    • Skill in use of external timing sources, such as LEO signals to discipline oscillators.
    • Working knowledge optimizing LEO TOA/TOT observation quality via clock improvements.
    • Strategic thinker with a strong aptitude for problem-solving.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
    • Experience providing technical leadership, mentoring and customer support.

    Education / Certifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
    • Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) preferred.

    Experience:

    • 5 years of related experience in PNT technology required
    • Extensive experience in time-frequency analysis, timing closure, and clock distribution design
    • Experience in aerospace or defense industry is preferred.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Constantly required to sit, and to reach to use computers and other office equipment
    • Constantly required repetitive movements of wrists, hands, and/or fingers

    Security Clearance:

    • Ability to obtain/maintain a Secret DoD clearance, U.S. Citizenship required.
