Aerospace Engineer researches and develops structural engineering specifications for aerospace products, parts, or associated operations to improve the efficiency and reliability of aerospace systems. Analyzes results of stress tests on various craft and missile parts to determine material durability and tolerances. Being an Aerospace Engineer oversees flight tests of prototypes and analyzes resulting data to validate flight characteristics and identify necessary improvements. Conducts calculations and utilizes simulations to evaluate aerodynamics, structural integrity, propulsion efficiency, and the effect on fuel consumption of new or existing materials. Additionally, Aerospace Engineer utilizes CAE, 3-D, and digital modeling to create detailed plans and specifications to support production. Assists quality assurance and purchasing teams with the evaluation of new or existing suppliers, products and materials, or technologies. Understands and complies with all federal regulatory requirements and specifications. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Aerospace Engineer work is closely managed.     Come and join us in the Pacific Northwest and support the development of Helmet Mounted Displays (HMD), Head Up Displays (HUD) and Multispectral Camera Systems for aerospace applications at Collins Aerospace. We develop cutting edge technologies for pilots in both military and commercial markets. We are the group that developed the HMD for the F-35 pilot as well as the HUD for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner along with many more exciting platforms. We are working on our next generation products and looking to add a highly motivated Senior Optical Engineer to our group.

    Primary Responsibilities:
    • Work with other optical engineers as well as a multidisciplinary team
    • Capture requirements
    • Develop and execute trade studies, hardware development plans, and optical designs
    • Interface with suppliers
    • Develop and execute verification and test plans
    • Develop test equipment designs and transition into production
    • Create and present content for design reviews
    • Work within a multidisciplinary team to bring products to market


    Qualifications/Experience Needed:
    • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required. ;/li>
    • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience
    • Understanding of geometrical optics, diffractive optics, Free-form optics, illumination design, opto-mechanical design, optical test and verification
    • Interest in augmented reality displays and systems engineering


    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience with Zemax and TracePro
    • Proficient with MATLAB or similar data analysis software
    • Experience with estimating, tracking, and reporting project costs and schedule

    The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
