We currently have an opening for a Inspector A on our 1st shift (6:00am – 2:00pm).
SUMMARY
Under minimal supervision, performs receiving, in-process, and final inspection and testing of incoming parts, first articles, work-in-process and finished goods; maintains quality control records and reports. Is an active participant in the identification, resolution and root cause analysis of defects.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Interacts with production and engineering departments to communicate changes in materials, blueprints, and dimensional changes in prints that affect incoming & molded parts.
- Trains new inspectors on proper documentation and inspection techniques.
- Prepares and submits paperwork in Molding Department, including CARs, daily logs, first article reports and move ticket release documentation.
- Conducts thorough 1st article inspections on molded and vendor supplied parts.
- Conducts regular inspection rounds on machines and assembly lines. Ensuring that processes on the machine and assembly processes are being adhered to.
- Understands all aspects of the Receiving system and controls the goods brought into the area. Uses all the relevant inspection tools and sampling techniques to monitor the quality of the products being submitted.
- Conducts tests of finished goods, ensuring that Pelicans quality standards are being adhered to cosmetically and functionally.
- Maintains and monitors quality control records and reports from the manufacturing areas.
- Understands all documentation involved in Pelicans custom process and inspects products manufactured for this. Communicates with all parties involved to ensure compliance and control of the product.
- Understands the key elements of ISO 9001:2000 and the requirements of the QA department to adhere to the standard.
- Carries out source inspections at vendor sites. Converse with the key people at the vendor. Communicate requirements and monitor the output of the production.
- Follows company policies and practices as outlined in the Employee Handbook and/or applicable employment agreement. Follows safety guidelines and procedures in accordance to the job.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma and two years mechanical inspection experience.
- Ability to use measuring tools including calipers, micrometers, inside/outside micrometers, verniers, pin gauges, height gauges, radius gauges, protractors and dial indicators.
- Knowledgeable of inspection sampling methods.
- Excellent GDT knowledge and ability to read blue prints at a proficient level, determine standards and relate drawings of parts to the actual parts.
- Ability to provide basic mechanical drafting training to inspectors-in-training and render illustrations of defects in parts.
- Ability to perform problem solving tasks and analyze causes of failure.
- Must have very good verbal, written, presentation skills and basic math skills.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Basic knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and flow-charting software.

- Must be flexible regarding working hours and overtime. Must be able to work overtime on evenings and weekends, with or without advanced notice.
- Must be able to operate in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be constantly required to execute standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers).
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be occasionally required to execute non-standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch).
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
- This position requires repetitive hand/wrist activities.
