Airframe and Engine Mechanic, Sr. jobs in New Bedford, MA

Premier Cape Cod Boatyard & Marina seeking experienced boat mechanic specializing in Mercury and Yamaha outboard engines. ABYC cert preferred-not required. The ideal candidate will have extensive diagnostic and repair abilities in gas engines, fuel systems, boat systems and electrical systems. Mercury and Yamaha certifications a plus. We operate out of a State of the Art full service yacht repair and marine facility servicing yachts up to 120 feet.

The Engine Technician is responsible for installation, repair, maintenance and troubleshooting marine engine and drive train systems as well as ancillary mechanical components. Direction comes from the Director of Operations.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:  

·       Includes installation, repair, maintenance and troubleshooting marine engine and drive train systems as well as ancillary mechanical components

·       Follow safety and caution procedures at all times

·       Maintain high levels of attention to detail

·       Will work to estimated job hours, efficiently & correctly

·       Will be aware of scheduled job hours & communicate potential problems immediately

·       Coordinate and be proactive in planning material needs for work being performed

·       Ensure that time is properly documented and charged against appropriate boat and work order

·       Maintain a spotless and clutter free work area

·       Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory and sanitation policies

·       Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Required Education and Experience

·       High school diploma or equivalent preferred

·       5 years’ experience preferred

·       Previous experience with boat engines is needed

·       Able to work both independently and as part of a team to achieve goals and targets

·       Reliable with good time management skills and the ability to organize and prioritize work

·       Adaptable to working in a fast-paced environment

·       Must enjoy working outdoors

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

·       Must be able to swim

·       Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluation situations and making decisions.

·       General seamanship knowledge, boating right of ways rules, basic navigation, and inshore and offshore mooring techniques.

·       Work tasks may be performed both indoors and outdoors.

·       Keep up to date with engine mechanic certifications

·       Outside work for extended periods of time in various weather conditions.

·       Normal vision and hearing ranges required.

·       Must be comfortable using all dock equipment and materials (gas pump, boats, ropes, anchors, among others).
