Airframe and Engine Mechanic, Sr. jobs in Wilmington, NC

Performs routine, emergency and preventative maintenance on all maintenance equipment managed by the department, occasionally assisting other departments with their needs.  Orders and maintains required parts for stock and shop supplies, and maintaining accurate inventory records.  Requires knowledge of 2 and 4 stroke and 3 and 4 cylinder diesel engine repair, and the operation of welding equipment and diagnostic testing equipment.   Responsible for the tracking of hand tools and other small equipment, and keeping accurate records and inventory.

• Provides maintenance and repair of light and heavy equipment by inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining all small engine equipment and diesel motors for the department including components such as generators, water pumps, welders, vacuum cleaners, weed eaters, golf carts, hedge trimmers, chainsaws, marine motors and pressure washers.
• Assists department in other maintenance assignments that require the skills related to this position such as welding repairs on fences or facilities as necessary.
• Creates, implements and tracks the preventative maintenance schedule for all equipment. Performs emergency services in the shop and in the field, communicating schedule changes that arise and collaborates with supervisor to prioritize work to be done. Based on work load and urgency of repairs may recommend outsourced repairs and sources vendors for such services.
• Orders parts for maintenance and repairs, ensuring best price through comparative sources.  Completes purchase orders, receives orders and compares invoice to parts ordered to ensure correct items are received.
• Issues small hand tools and keys to equipment  to the departments’ employees and tracks the return of same, monitoring condition  and        usage.
• Works with temporary labor as assigned, prioritizing work and monitoring results.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• High School Diploma, one year of additional vocational/technical training, and three years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.  
• Experience
• Skill in the diagnosis and repair of equipment failures.
• Knowledge of hazard and safety precautions common to vehicle/equipment maintenance and repair activities.
• Ability to work independently.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Exerting 20-50 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position generally requires in a shop setting, as well as outdoors in all weather elements.
