Director, Alumni Engagement - University Advancement - Salary Competitive

  • Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President for University Advancement and Alumni Engagement, the Director, Alumni Engagement creates, fosters, and maximizes meaningful opportunities for alumni engagement and connects alumni with each other, current/prospective students, faculty, and staff. The Director oversees and assists with a volunteer management program that includes regional alumni networks, an Alumni Advisory Council, and specific affinity-based volunteer and chapter programs. On an annual basis, the Director implements over 40 Alumni Engagement online or in-person events and programs, including Homecoming, reunions, meetings, and lectures. The Director will partner with other campus departments and offices, including Enrollment Management, Career Connections, Academic Support Services, Student Life, Athletics, and Conference Services to strengthen alumni relationships, volunteer opportunities and engagement. Work is performed under general supervision and performance evaluation is based upon completion of assignments and results obtained. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University Policies & Procedures.  

     

    ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS 

    Reports to:      Assistant Vice President, University Advancement and Alumni Engagement 

    Supervises:     Associate Directors, Assistant Directors, Managers, Student Workers, and Volunteers

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES - May include, but not limited to the following: 

    • Builds, nurtures, and expands relationships with the university's alumni through Zoom and in-person visits, events, phone calls, written and electronic communications.
    • Develops and executes a year-round calendar of diverse alumni events, which are targeted at increasing alumni engagement with the university while creating value for alumni (e.g. career networking). This will also include affinity-based events utilizing faculty and leadership in key academic programs.
    • Assists the AVP with the Alumni Advisory Council to develop and execute best practices in alumni programming and to meet alumni engagement goals.
    • Oversees the planning and implementation of Homecoming activities and events including the TWU Alumni Achievement Awards recognition event.
    • Works directly with reunion class volunteer committees to increase alumni attendance and participation.
    • Oversees and supports the development of alumni networks in key geographic areas, i.e., Washington-DC, Seattle, Denver, etc. consistent with strategic priorities of the comprehensive campaign.
    • Strengthens current university outreach programs with campus partners such as Enrollment Management, the Career Connections Center, and Athletics. Collaborates with additional on-campus departments to develop additional ways for alumni to stay connected with TWU.
    • Manages a personal portfolio of prospective and current donors.
    • Plans and executes annual comprehensive communication plans for alumni to include direct mail, e-communications, social media, and print materials.
    • Responsible for establishing job standards for subordinate staff and effectively evaluating staff under charge. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University Policies & Procedures.

     

    ADDITIONAL DUTIES

    WORK ENVIRONMENT 

    All employees are responsible for maintaining an environment that is free from discrimination, intimidation, harassment, including sexual harassment. Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment.

    SAFETY 

    TWU promotes a safe working environment. Employees are responsible for completing assigned tasks safely and efficiently, and supervisors are responsible for creating and maintaining a safe work environment. Employees must report any unsafe work conditions or practices, as well as any near-miss incidents, to their supervisor and Risk Management. Supervisors and employees should ensure that injury/accident reports are submitted to the Office of Human Resources and Risk Management within 24 hours of the incident.

     

    Bachelor's degree in a related field is required. Master's degree strongly preferred. At least three years of successful, progressively responsible experience in higher education alumni engagement or university advancement is required. 

    Regular and reliable attendance during regular scheduled days and work hours is an essential function of this position. 

    May complete some or all work remotely upon approval via the university's Alternative Work Arrangement Policy.

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - The following are essential: 

    • Ability to be a team player with ability to take direction and always communicate with colleagues and constituents courteously and respectfully.
    • Must have the ability to multi-task and work in a high-volume environment.
    • Demonstrated effective verbal, written, and communication skills.
    • Proven ability to successfully develop and implement a robust and successful Alumni Engagement program.
    • Broad knowledge and demonstrated expertise in database technologies, including familiarity with fundraising support systems such as Raiser's Edge NXT.
    • Knowledge and understanding of social media platforms such as (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Twitter, etc.) and how to implement alumni campaigns.
    • Ability to travel and work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends.
    • Ability to analyze data, monitor budgets and develop successful plans.
    • Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment, including related university software and email.
