The Sr. Associate Vice President of Development and Alumni Affairs’ (SAVP) primary responsibility is to assist with the planning, design and implementation of a comprehensive development program including business systems & analysis support.
The SAVP is responsible for facilitating and supporting the activities of the EVMS Board of Trustees under the leadership of the President of EVMS and in coordination with the Chairman of the EVMS BOT.
In this position, they monitor the integrity of the information contained in the Development and Alumni Affairs databases and related donor files, manages donor relations and communications systems, and determines how to translate data into usable, actionable information for the formation and execution of the fundraising strategies and measures of success for EVMS.
The SAVP provides management support for annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, principle gifts, capital campaigns, and marketing activities related to fundraising. They manage a team of development and alumni affairs professionals, and they define needs, compiles data and information, provide statistical models, and prepare analyses to support marketing and fundraising staff in making informed business decisions. They manage donors and prospects from an individual and/or segment perspective. In addition, they manage a team of fundraising and alumni affairs specialists with responsibility for data entry, reporting, stewardship and transaction activity as well as annual giving, special events and community relations.
Prepare and monitor budgets for all fundraising and related marketing activities, consulting with Office of Marketing and Communications as needed.
Ensure that the Office of Development and Alumni Affairs policies and procedures are in accordance with benchmark/best practice standards.
Assist with developing and implementing policies, processes and reporting mechanisms to track all major gift prospects throughout the development cycle (identification, qualification, assignment, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.)
Responsible for raising significant philanthropic support through management of the Development staff and by carrying a personal major gift portfolio.
Develop, implement and maintain a comprehensive planned/deferred giving policy/plan.
Provide strategic planning, counsel, and assistance to directors of divisional units on matters relating to fundraising.
Assist EVMS staff in responding to inquiries related to writing proposals, scholarship agreements and donor inquiries about merit-based and need-based scholarships.
Use data mining to identify and qualify prospective donors and manage the prospect assignment process.
Oversee and/or develop research and analysis on development prospects by utilizing a multitude of resources.
Contribute to the cultivation and solicitation process by preparing written prospect evaluations and participating in strategy sessions and prospect discussions with internal stakeholders.
Provide written and verbal briefings on major gift prospects to the President of EVMS and the Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.
Develop and monitor metrics for Development and Alumni Affairs officers with specific quarterly/annual goals.
Monitor Development and Alumni Affairs operations and donor relations budgets in addition to integral policies and procedures.
Responsible for overseeing the Office of Alumni Affairs and its planning/ implementation of programs and projects that strategically engage alumni in strengthening programs and provide tangible benefits to alumni and current students.
Manage the donor files.
All other duties as assigned.
MANAGEMENT AND SUPERVISORY RESPOSIBILITIES:
Direct responsibility for the Executive Director of Major Gifts and Annual Giving, Executive Director of Alumni and Donor Relations, Director of Community Engagement, Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, Director of Development Operations, Capital Campaign Manager (during periods of capital campaign activities).

BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITY:
Assist in developing budget recommendations and provides shared contribution in monitoring expenses against budget.
Bachelor's degree and 10 years related experience in fundraising required, preferably in a higher education or healthcare setting. Experience in direct marketing, finance/accounting, business, or equivalent combination will be considered a plus. MBA or related master’s degree preferred.
Experience in utilizing standard statistical practices and tools, excellent analytical and quantitative skills, including ability to manipulate, analyze, and interpret data and statistical models.
Experience with major fundraising database systems such as Raiser's Edge, SCT Banner, etc.
Experience implementing results of donor screening and segmenting initiatives
Familiarity with relational databases and ability to design reports from databases. Ability to use advanced computer functions.
Knowledge of current trends in fundraising and marketing, including benchmarking and metrics.
Successful experience in developing, directing and managing multiple projects and implementing strategic program goals.
Superior oral and written communication skills,
Track record of achievement in leading a department or division
Ability to motivate, lead, set objectives, and manage performance of a diverse, multi-disciplinary team.
