SCHOOL/UNIT DESCRIPTION:
Since its founding in 1963, the Inter-University Center for Japanese Language Studies (IUC) has been the pre-eminent immersion program for students seeking professional-level fluency in Japanese. With administrative headquarters at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford, the IUC is led by a Stanford faculty director and cooperatively managed by a consortium of North American universities with major programs in Japanese studies. Each year, more than 50 students attend the IUC program in Yokohama to focus exclusively on advanced Japanese language studies. Two-thirds of them are enrolled in M.A. and Ph.D. programs, with another third having recently completed a B.A. The IUC alumni community includes numerous highly accomplished Japan experts in academia, business, diplomacy, journalism, law, and many other professions. Our staff are critical to supporting our organization’s core mission and ensuring that the IUC continues to meet the needs of today’s students.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Inter-University Center for Japanese Language Studies (IUC) seeks an Alumni Relations Officer to join our team. The Alumni Relations Officer reports directly to the Associate Director. The person works with alumni volunteers, faculty, students, the Office of Development, and other IUC colleagues to develop, implement, and assist with evaluating activities, programs, services, and communications that reach, serve, and engage alumni. Assists with the achievement of the strategic plan goals, as well as marketing, planning or managing all of alumni programs, events, educational opportunities, and/or other alumni initiatives, and integrating information from Japan IUC operations. The Alumni Relations Officer works closely with IUC Japan staff to create seamless integration of alumni engagement and career networking, and ongoing alumni events including reunions. Familiarity with Japanese culture and language is a plus.

The expected pay range for this position is $71,000 to $82,000 per annum.
