Anesthesia Technician assists Anesthesiologist by setting-up equipment and preparing medications. Orders, stocks, tests, and maintains anesthesia supplies, medications, and equipment. Being an Anesthesia Technician washes and sterilizes re-usable equipment and reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate personnel. Performs safety checks on anesthesia equipment and assists the Anesthesiologist as needed. Additionally, Anesthesia Technician may also be required to complete Anesthesia Technician trainee program. May require an associate degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Anesthesia Technician works under moderate supervision. POSITION SUMMARY: To facilitate care of patients under the direction of the Anesthesiologist/Anesthetist and RN utilizing process, in accordance with the philosophy, goals, and objectives of Gulf Coast Medical Center.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Demonstrates knowledge and application of sterile technique, equipment and supplies needed for various anesthetics.
2. Communicates, interacts and participates in teamwork on the unit.
3. Practices, endorses and provides customer service skills to patients, visitors, physicians and staff.
4. Serves as the patient and family advocate with respect to the patients’ right to privacy by protecting confidential information.
5. Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, qualify of care or the services delivered.
6. Demonstrates knowledge of the occurrence reporting system. Uses system to report potential patient safety issues.
7. Follows established guidelines for reporting a significant medical error or unanticipated outcome in the patient’s care which results in patient harm.
8. Attends inservice presentations and completes all mandatory education requirements.
9. Maintains and safely handles medications to include IV fluids, contrast media and non-narcotic prescription medications.
10. Regular, Punctual and dependable attendance.
11. May have access to the room or designated areas to transport, assemble, and stock (inventory) of non scheduled drugs and biologicals to include but not limited to fluids, sterile water, normal saline, and irrigations.
12. Assists the anesthesiologist with certain aspects of patient care as needed.
13. Orders anesthesia equipment and disposable supplies according to established par levels.
14. Assists with turnover of anesthesia supplies and equipment in between cases, including placing circuits on the machine and insuring appropriate supplies and disposables on the anesthesia cart.
15. Performs regular cleaning of all anesthesia equipment, including anesthesia machines, non-disposable equipment/supplies and monitors.
16. Maintains anesthesia storage and supply areas in a clean and orderly fashion that promotes ease of access by Anesthesia staff.
17. Obtains and changes medical gas tanks as needed.
18. Other duties as assigned.
