Anesthesia Technician assists Anesthesiologist by setting-up equipment and preparing medications. Orders, stocks, tests, and maintains anesthesia supplies, medications, and equipment. Being an Anesthesia Technician washes and sterilizes re-usable equipment and reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate personnel. Performs safety checks on anesthesia equipment and assists the Anesthesiologist as needed. Additionally, Anesthesia Technician may also be required to complete Anesthesia Technician trainee program. May require an associate degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Anesthesia Technician works under moderate supervision. The Anesthesia Technician-Lead is certified through the American Society of Anesthesiology Technologists and Technicians (ASATT) and is a prominent member of the anesthesia care team. Makes daily anesthesia tech assignments to assist the licensed anesthesia provider in clinical settings where anesthesia is administered at all sites licensed under Loma Linda University Medical Center and Loma Linda University Children's Hospital. Reviews the operating room schedule and Non-Operating Room Anesthesia (NORA) procedure schedule to ensure coverage in a fast-paced environment with multiple schedule changes throughout the day. Serves as a role model and provides positive influence to initiate and facilitate change. Prepares appropriate instruments, equipment and supplies for the administration of each age-specific type of anesthesia. Demonstrates practical knowledge and expertise in all areas of anesthesia (general anesthesia, procedure-related sedation, and regional techniques). Assists with operating room turnover and patient flow. Serves as a resource to anesthesia technicians and demonstrates innovative problem-solving skills. Achieves and maintains a trusting and credible working relationship with anesthesiologists, nurse anesthetists, anesthesia techs and operating room administration and staff. Performs other duties as needed.
High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required. Minimum two years of experience as an anesthesia technician required. American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians Certification required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
